  I think my home has become #hummingbird central. I have five 8-oz hummingbird feeders and I keep them full all the time in the summer. I'm currently going through 2 quarts of sugar water a week. Birds are buzzing around from first light until last night. Sadly, I'm also #yellowjacket and #hornet central. I just set up another three wasp traps and all three of them were catching #wasps within 20 minutes. I also just sprayed a few hornet nests. So I'll stay inside for a while.😬

  I think my blog just got a post from the guy who taught me how to fly this. We had a huge falling out and I haven't spoken to him in about 10 years. Looks like he's trying to get in touch. I'll have to forgive him because I completely forgot what he did to piss me off so badly that I walked out of dinner with him and never spoke to him again.🤔

  Great. New smoke seems to be coming out of a canyon about 7 miles from me. They just launched one of the fire helicopters over to take a look. He's over the canyon now. Nothing on watch duty yet. A fire in a canyon a bunch of years ago led to the destruction of an entire neighborhood.

  Well, that was something. I just assembled the tent I bought for car #camping. Only three poles and they are lightweight and shock corded, which is all good. But they are also very tight, especially the one that goes across the top. I really struggled and I suspect I put more strain on my left hand than I should have because it hurts. Damn. When I was finally done I discovered that the tent cannot stand up on its own unless it is staked into the ground on all 4 corners. (1/3)

  I spent most of the day updating my accounting records. Not only do I have to keep track of my personal finances, but I operate three businesses and do the accounting for them, too. I was terribly far behind in the updates but now I'm mostly caught up. You might think this is surprising, but I did emerge from college years ago with BBA in Accounting. (What was I thinking?)

  The smoke is so bad that a #firefighting #helicopter just flew past the side of my house, maybe 1000 yards away. I remember flying my helicopter from Wenatchee Heights about 6 miles down to the airport in bad smoke back in 2012. The airport AWOS claimed visibility 10 miles, but it was barely a quarter mile where I was. I took off and flu low level, staying within sight of the ground. (1/2)

  For months I thought that my neighbor's son had finally gotten his fucking loud truck fixed or replaced; it wasn't driving past my house at 5:30 AM every morning. But apparently he was either staying home or using some other vehicle because the truck has been gone by every day for the past few days again. So much for living in a quiet neighborhood.

  Although the San Juan Islands is an amazing cruising grounds, I think a lot of people overlook the area south of Anacortes, including Skagit Bay, Puget Sound, and South Puget Sound. It has a whole different feeling to it, with lots of little town marinas, gorgeous scenery, and its fair share of Marine Parks.   Under way by around 6 AM this morning. Water is dead calm with hardly any wind. I set up my autopilot to follow the track I laid down on Monday when I went from Anacortes to Coupeville, but backwards. Whidbey Isalnd is close by on my port side. Getting about 9 knots at 2400 RPM with a tiny current against us. I'm letting the Autopilot drive but am keeping a sharp lookout for new crab traps along the way. #boating #PNW

  There are hollyhocks growing in profusion at the entrance to our local Fred Meyer supermarket. They are just past prime bloom and those seed heads down the stalks are calling me. I have hollyhocks at home that grow pretty well, but they are all the same brownish purple color. Ugh. These are much nicer colors.   #AQI is 176 here, although it looks (and smells) a lot worse this morning. I'm wondering if it's worse at my elevation than at the air quality station, which is down near the level of the river. (That's about 900 feet below me.) I've got all the windows closed throughout the house so I don't really smell it inside. It's a shame that I have to go out again today. #wildfires #smoke

  The latest charge stats for my #NewCar. This is via a standard 20 amp wall outlet in my garage. It took 12 hours to charge it from 42% to 100%. It cost me 26¢. At 100%, I supposedly have an EV-only range of 43 miles. With some rough math I can calculate that it costs about 1¢ per mile to drive this car in EV only mode. It would be interesting to do the math for a year, comparing what it costs to drive this car to what it might cost to drive a car that gets 25 MPG on average. 🤔… (1/2)

  I watched the parade here at Lopez Island. There was a model T that had a "Happy 250th Birthday" banner on it with a photo of Donald Trump at the bottom. I booed. Loudly.
