@danluu I gathered from the HN discussion that this "feature" wasn't supposed to ignore whether you'd really used Copilot: apparently there was a bug in the part which was supposed to detect whether you had or hadn't. Of course even for people who had used it, it's still rude to make the added message be opt-out!

@danluu@mastodon.social This makes me want to dump VS Code, even though it doesn't affect me since I do all my git stuff from the command line anyway. Microsoft really does seem to want to drive away their customers. I gave up Visual Studio for Rider already, and probably will switch my desktop at home to some Linux distro once Windows 10 stops being viable for games. But the company I work for is an MS shop, and VS Code is the only viable editor I'm allowed to have on my laptop, so crap like this really get's my dander up

@danluu@mastodon.social this is such a good illustration of the issue of github (microsoft) owning such a large part of the dev experience. unless you can get a mob together, they won't fix anything. dealing with a small version of this right now and its super frustrating the power imbalance and how gh can basically ignore you.

Microsoft is A) starting to hire more and more contractors to replace full-time software engineers and B) requiring everyone in the company to vibecode 30% of their code down to a metric that's even on employee reviews, which is how idiotic stuff like this happens.

@danluu@mastodon.social µsoft is 'the evil'. Just quit using it. Period. Really. I've gotten through my entire life without that sludge on my home pc (I'm 65). And without Apple. There are nearly (nearly!) always alternatives. Very few industry/scholastic traps like autocad and esri - and those *do* have alternatives in fact. You have to literally pay me to use microsoft on your computers. And, thanks for that!! :-) If you were using linux/bsd, you wouldn't need me, so you are doing a public service and feeding me.
