@Retreival9096@hachyderm.io I briefly played with Proton's Lumo too, and it's complete garbage, as expected. Spewed confidently wrong answers, the usual LLM bullshit. I'm really fucking tired. I'd already migrated email to them a while ago from Google, which was a chore. Now I guess I'm going to have to do it again, to someone else. Someone else who will probably turn around and embrace LLM fuckery or some other fascist pivot. And please don't come back at me with "host your own email". There's a limit to the cognitive load I want to merely exist in this digital hellscape. I'm almost to the point of saying fuck it and unplugging.

@Retreival9096 How would it affect my confidence in Proton products? It can't really get any lower. And LLM use is certainly not going to make it higher. In fact it seems a good fit. The Trump/fascist supporting Proton and the Trump/fascist supporting LLM companies.

@Retreival9096 Already stopped paying for their products after the introduction of that chatbot. Seems like it was a good idea; seeing AI-chatbots as useful appears to be writing on the wall for more slop down the line.

@Retreival9096 I currently use Proton for VPNs. I won’t be renewing. The one thing you need from a VPN is trustability. The one thing you don’t get from AI code is something you can 100% trust.

@Retreival9096 mixing cryptography and LLMs sounds like a bad idea, damn. Even if you keep it to stuff that doesn't cross the boundary, it can still push a lot against it I bet ... Though I remember Proton overall being a bit murky as a company, in terms of political stance by CEO, and such? Not entirely sure but yeah.

@Retreival9096 I think you'll find that all actual software developers who have tried using LLMs as aid the last ~6 months agree that they are quite useful. The people who claim differently are either 1) not actual developers or 2) haven't checked if their gut feelings agree with reality. That said, I would most definitely not have an LLM write me a cryptographic library, but I'm also very certain Proton aren't either.

@Retreival9096 LOL- I ran into the chatbot a month or so ago: an endless cycle of requests for clarifications which I humoured for a few days, then became bored and ignored. I like most of the proton products well enough, but no way Im going to ever bother support again. If it breaks, it's broke. Simple
