I had not known that filming of the short German TV show Space Patrol started two months after the first rejected pilot episode for Star Trek in America, and both shows would air their first episodes in their respective countries within only a week of each other over a year later. Which makes it really weird how almost identical the concepts for both shows are. Space Patrol doesn't have the pretense of science exploration, but otherwise it's the same idea. #StarTrek #Raumpatrouille

Any space nerds here know about a calculator to estimate the energy requirement for a suborbital flight to travel 10,000 km between two points on the surface of the Earth? #space #scifi #rockets

Sci-fi pen and paper RPG people! What are your favorite systems for space combat? I'm particularly interested in anything that has more resemblance with cruiser battles than starfighter battles. #ttrpg

Due to current events, I checked where the funding for #Godot actually comes from and if there's any involvement from nasty technofascist groups that are enabling atrocities around the world. https://fund.godotengine.org And the list of corporate donors is mostly indie developers who share some of the profits they made using Godot. Arm seems to be a full out AI company and Sentry sells an AI debugger. And I have no idea what Copia wealth management software is doing there. But mostly...

Making low-poly 3D models in Blender, and low-resolution textures in Krita has been relatively easy to learn so far, in that I can Half-Life and Metal Gear Solid as references for how I want the graphics to look in #IridiumMoons and I have a pretty good idea of the visual aesthetic for environments, characters, and machines I am aiming for. Synth music seems like something that one could make by ear with single notes and zero theory. But I don't even have a clue what style I would want....

Ha! MobyGames has everything. I finally managed to find out what that game was that I saw once in a bargain bin in 1995. I thought it was called Armada, but wasn't even sure about that. But they do have images of the front and back of the German version for Wing Commander: Armada and it did indeed come without a cardboard box, and the colors and layout on the back do resemble my faint memory from 31 years ago. ๐Ÿ˜„ #retrogames

Die Siedler II was released 30 years ago in Germany on 17th April 1996 for DOS. Alongside X-Wing and Worms, this was one of the first games that I played for a considerable time and really understood how to play, other than having a turn at platformer or fighting games on a friend's console. #1996InVideoGames #90sGames #VideoGameHistory #videogames #retrogames #retrogaming #strategygames #DieSiedler #DieSiedler2 #TheSettlers #TheSettlers2

Do newer game consoles still have the motion controls of their predecessors from the 2000s. The ones that almost no game ever used, and when they used it it never really worked? Does motion control still exist outside of VR? #PS5 #videogames

Back in 2023, the then 23 year old game Half-Life: Opposing Force had a massive spike in players playing it on Steam at the same time. Because some Half-Life fans thought that an all-time peak of just over 500 players was way too low and the game deserves much higher. ๐Ÿ˜… #HalfLife #retrogames #retrogaming

Random idea I spontaneously had and would like to see, but won't try to set up and host myself because I know my ADHD. A site set up like a fanfiction site, but instead of posting stories and having people comment on them, you can post any kind of text about retrogames. Be it reviews, ongoing play reports, or general thoughts about genres. And people can rate them, and you can browse tags for games, series, genres, and so on. #retrogames #retrogaming

Deconstruction is actually fun when you do it to something that you love with the purpose of finding new meaning, rather than out of spite to find arguments while it's bad. I get why people habitually sat down to do some recreational philosophy without some personal crisis that needed resolving. ๐Ÿ˜„ #philosophy #movies #literature #art

Back in the early #StarWars Expanded Universe, the fly boys from Rogue Squadron with their flashy X-Wings got a lot of page space (9 novels and 37 comics) and even their own games. I would love to see a series about a Y-Wing squadron, carrying the early Rebellion on their back before all the cool and shiny new hardware trickled in over the years. ๐Ÿ˜„ #StarWarsEU #RogueSquadron

I really don't need it for my own game, but I do occasionally wonder what it would take to have game levels with non-unified directions of gravity? Inside a rotating space station would be the most obvious use case. But there's all kinds of weird gravity anomalies that could be done with it.

There is a collection of Star War comics about Jabba from 1998 named "Jabba the Hutt: The Art of the Deal". Which will never not be funny. I actually could endlessly make Jabba jokes about Trump, but Jabba is a major part of my favorite hobby and I'm not gonna associate it with that disgusting piece of slime.

#Blender noob question: Is it possible to change the default settings for a new texture? I am probably going to do a lot of textures that are almost all going to be 64x64 pixels and have texture interpolation: closest, and likely not going to make anything else (except sometimes 128x128 resolution). Can I tell Blender to always have a new texture set up like that by default? (And maybe a 1px Paint Pixel Art brush as default brush as well?) #b3d

I'm not really a platformer player, but the Super Star Wars games on the SNES have an amazing art style. If I could translate those colors into Quake style 3D graphics, it would make the prettiest game I've ever seen.

Wanting to read some old space adventures, I picked a Jack Vance book pretty much at a whim. Can't go wrong with Jack Vance, right? He's one of the big names. I have to say, City of the Chasch is pretty bad. Not offensively terrible, but the prose is mid-tier fanfic level at best, and there is no plot. It's just things happening with no coherent direction anywhere to be seen. I have similar feelings about Edgar Borroughs, but at least he was 50 years earlier. #SciFi #...
