If you are making a project for people, and you know said project will be used by customers who know nothing about building, make binaries. I don't know if it's just me, but I get a little annoyed when some people believe that everyone knows how to build from source, or has the tools. Sure, building from source has great advantages, but for the average consumer, they'll want to click on a file and boom, installation dialog. Not download a load of assembly tools and whatnot.

@jdking92 @tunmi13 Very likely, if a project is in a state where you need to build it from source to use, you'd be expected to understand whats going on, as its likely in an alpha development stage.

  • @tunmi13 Lol not only that but even if I know how to build from source which I have experience with, sometimes I'm just lazy and wanna be able to run said binary and go.

@tunmi13 Yes exactly. I don't want to mess around with... whatever you need to do to build something from source, I just want to use your program. Making me build it from source is going to drive me right TF away from your product because I wouldn't have a single clue how to build stuff from source, I'm not a coder.

  • @tunmi13 Generally, I agree with you, but it may well be a deliberate barrier. The dev may be saying, to himself if not publicly, "I don't want to answer basic questions, if a guy wants to use my program, at least building from source will avoid users who don't know much". I don't like that, but do understand it.

@Bri @tunmi13 I think my only time I'd disagree is if it's an early version that really isn't ready for the masses yet, but generally totally agree.

@Bri @tunmi13 I fall into that category. Please give me a binary. And thank you for doing that.

@tunmi13 But but but, you don't think my 85-year-old dad would have the patience of downloading 3 gigs of tools and then type in an obscure command in order to possibly create an executable that may or may not be findable? Yeah, I hate that too!
