What about saying “invest” instead of “buy” when you pay for a font license? It gives a better sense of the value you get from your money. #random #thoughts

    @marsidesino@typo.social You can't resell most font licences. If proprietary fonts exist in the near future (not sure they will due to AI and open source), NFTs and ZK-proofs in some kind of blockchain DRM system would make this work!

    @marsidesino@typo.social is it an investment though, or just a valuable purchase? fwiw I prefer ‘license’ since that implies there are terms involved, i.e. the customer isn’t getting outright ownership

    @marsidesino@typo.social People investing in artworks are called Art Buyers, though (in this case IMO, the “buy” verb implies that they care about the art, not just the financial asset). Or you’re “buying the rights” to a song. Maybe it’s not the verb but the word “font” that gets less respect than other types of art? 🙃
