  I started work on a new neural network based post-OpenType font format this morning, and I already have a working demo! You can copy, paste, delete, type, move the cursor around, move a kashida axis with a slider.   The compositor node I worked on for Fuser has typographic features like tracking, line height, variable font support, and kerning with Option + ← or → keys. The goal was to achieve the same typographic detail as in Figma, InDesign, DrawBot, etc.

  I'm working on a new feature for img2bez in Runebender Xilem that lets you use an existing outline and refit it onto a raster image. To test this out, I'm using Claude Code and Nano Banana to make a variable font fork of Instrument Serif called Instruments Serif (weight range 400–900).

  It's extremely buggy and broken right now, but I actually got QuiverAI somewhat working for tracing background images in Runebender Xilem. If I can get this working, you just need a QuiverAI API key in ~/.config/runebender and hit Cmd+Shift+Y to trace a background image.

  We don't talk enough about how much better UFO is than Glyphs for working with Claude Code. The Font Engineering Licensing Board needs to revoke the credentials of everyone involved with pushing the Glyphs format.

  I am running autoreaseach loops all weekend to improve img2bez. This is an unsolved problem in open-source vector graphics that can be numerically evaluated. There is low hanging fruit like this everywhere.
