Crazy idea here: How about a redraw of Times that’s minimum 87% the same with maximum 13% overinflating that one weird feature of Times, and then naming it some anagram, or pun, or translation, of “times”, has anyone ever done that yet?

RE: https://indieweb.social/@keithamus/116204286323408885 I love color geekery,* so of course I love every part of this project. Go read the post about this game as well https://www.keithcirkel.co.uk/too-much-color/ (Despite a good score as expected I think the interface is a bit punitive for people playing the game on their phones,** but on the other hand: my goodness how is my phone screen so friggin good!?) * http://predominant.ly ** look, it’s midnight, I had a half a bottle of champagn...

RE: https://climatejustice.social/@ketan/116424235023822227 This, dear reader, is one of the reasons why I judge you for your stupid use of stupid AI tools. The biggest companies on earth are rolling back their climate goals, no longer expedient, with tremendous environmental impact. All so that you can ask fucking ChatGPT a question you obviously don’t care whether the answer is correct.

Jonathan Biss’ interpretation of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no.3 on its own is quite remarkable, but as a part of his “Beethoven/5” cycle coordinates between Beethoven and contemporary composers, this one with a new work by Caroline Shaw is simply unmissable. I’ve known about it for five days and listened to it 12 times. https://www.orchidclassics.com/releases/orc100433-beethoven-5-vol-5/

🤖😡 😍🤖 Last year, my colleagues and I asked you to participate in a survey about your stances regarding AI (and non-AI) automation in type design. And wow, did you have things to say – thank you all for filling it in, and for sharing your thoughts and comments. Special thanks to our insightful and patient interviewees, and to our peer reviewers for their sharp and generous remarks. We are happy to report that after the long slow grind of the academic publishing machinery, an article has been...

Last days to fill in our survey regarding (your feelings about) design and artificial intelligence from ECAL (@alicesavoie, Raphaela Haefliger, Wayne Daly, me) https://www.surveyking.com/survey/ecal-typeresearch Speak now or forever hold your peace. Thanks for all replies so far. We’ll contact a bunch of you for interviews soon — sadly not as many as have given really good answers.

Here’s a cool #vinylrecord (but it’s not vinyl). Purpur Spytt’s 2024 album ‘Scavenges, Time-travels, and Scrapbooks’ is not pressed in vinyl but individually lathe-cut(!) into upcycled LaserDiscs. (Also the sleeves are LD-sleeves turned inside out and silkscreened). Typeface and design by “is there anything she can’t do!?” @SophieWietlisbach (of Impact Type fame). Cut by Grand Voyage Records.

Finally online: Beyond Bézier, the research projects my dear colleagues and I undertook at Écal, where we thought about type design beyond making products that use Bézier outlines. Video lectures by Matthieu Cortat, @alicesavoie, Radim Peško, Florence Yerly, Micha Wasem and myself, as well as lots of nice bonus content. https://beyondbezier.ch

I enjoyed reading @veryrobin’s design notes for Tiny Grotesk – a smart and innovative system of ideas to escape the Yetanothervetica trap that casts a wide net and brings fresh impulses to an otherwise overcrowded genre. https://tinytype.co/news/2024/design-notes-for-tiny-grotesk
