You were not born distrusting yourself. That came later. Installed gradually, through every institution that told you your instincts were wrong, your feelings were inconvenient, your certainty was arrogance, your questions were disruption. By the time you were old enough to notice, the distrust was already fluent. It felt like personality. It felt like humility. It felt like knowing your place.

@anildash@me.dm he was an incredible musician, no doubt. but i had to stop listening to him because he was such a terrible human being. it quite often comes through in his lyrics, how little regard he has for anybody but himself.
