You were not born distrusting yourself.
That came later. Installed gradually, through every institution that told you your instincts were wrong, your feelings were inconvenient, your certainty was arrogance, your questions were disruption. By the time you were old enough to notice, the distrust was already fluent. It felt like personality. It felt like humility. It felt like knowing your place.

The myth of white supremacy does not announce itself. It works through systems, institutions, and policies that shape what you are taught to want, what you are taught to fear, and what you are taught to doubt. Chief among those: your own judgment. A person who trusts themselves is harder to manage. A person who has learned to second-guess every instinct, to outsource every decision, to measure their own experience against someone else's approval, is exactly what the myth needs to keep running.
