@th @ErinRose I usually take a pen for this. Btw. I met these sockets in Uganda for the first time and learned the trick there.

@th @ErinRose It is technically ok, the best kind of ok 🤪 But anyway I would use something made of plastics. Just for a safe feeling 😅

@th @ErinRose my brain just made the sound a hognose snake does when its single brain cell (which seems to be shared by Orange Cat Brain Cell logic) decides it's big mad about something #DramaNoodle

@th @ErinRose i know this is likely a shitpost but just in case: doing this will bend the prongs of the plug outwards over time. also you get crappy electrical contact i have actually seen this set up in a hotel in malaysia once but whoever did it pulled out whatever they stuck in the earth socket afterwards if you want to do this "properly" you can buy adapters for fairly cheap that clamp onto the europlug and present a uk plug. it is actually legal to sell equipment with these installed in the uk because they are as permanent as a rewireable plug (which are fairly common in the uk and stuff still gets sold with them fitted). of course, cutting the plug off and fitting a rewireable one is also an option.

@th @ErinRose I’ve used the tip of the temple of my glasses for this, because hey it’s acetate, that’ll hopefully insulate the current a bit, and it’s nerdier that way 🤓

@th @ErinRose That's it, hold that key and you'll be grounded (literally).

@th @ErinRose I would use wooden chopsticks when living in Malta. I saw one Maltese using a screwdriver, though.

@th oh the number of times I have done that… pencils, pens, whatever pushed that ground in to "free" the socket. @ErinRose
