Thank you SO much for the overwhelming support. Gotta love the fediverse ❤️ Some more context (1/x): German Father-in-law's biological mother gave him up for adoption. Decades later, he found her family, she already had passed. No one knew his father, but she left behind pictures - showing her with this man. And from the same pictures series, portaits with his signature on it. First one reads "Will You Remember Edward J. Garth", second one "I no speak [unreadable] - Edward J. Garth".

@azett@mastodon.online I have no idea but this image looks freakishly like a good friend of mine who was adopted.

@azett@mastodon.online There's a New Zealand record on Ancestry for a Edward James Garth, he appears on a WWII Ballot list. I can't find anything else at Ancestry for this person. [Edit: actually WWII]

@azett@mastodon.online I don't see any matches in the national archives' database of army enlistments: https://aad.archives.gov/aad/display-partial-records.jsp?s=3360&dt=929&tf=F&bc=%2Csl%2Cfd&q=garth&btnSearch=Search&as_alq=&as_anq=&as_epq=&as_woq== the us air force wasn't separate until after wwii, so this suggests your man was either in the usa navy/marines or not an american soldier. (possibly british or canadian?) what information do you have that suggests he was from the usa?

@azett@mastodon.online Going with the idea that his surname is actually Barth… This man was in the army in WWII https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/89490410/edward_j-barth

@azett@mastodon.online I don't have any useful input, but I love that we're TRYING to remember Edward J. Garth (or maybe Barth).
