@allpurposemat@mastodon.gamedev.place o/ (hello from a Moto G7 with #postmarketos) re: "I don't want to set my system default shell to fish as it's not POSIX-compliant" – there is no such thing as a *system* default shell really, what chsh sets is your *user* login shell which has always been fine to use a non posix one as! (the BSDs historically used (t)csh as the default login shell) also pure black is not nearly as important as you think for amoled. dark gray saves almost as much power

@allpurposemat@mastodon.gamedev.place I don’t want to set my system default shell to fish as it’s not POSIX-compliant, and would much prefer to only have interactive sessions (kgx and possibly ssh) launch with it. i believe chsh is the way to go for this, it’s the unix command to change your user’s login shell

I am another FP5 daily driver; I use an Ubports phone to get around calls, and an android phone I rarely. use for bank and UK Gov apps. I am also amazed at. the progress and cross my fingers that I can move to 'just' 2 phones later this year. Lack of autoupload images to Nextcloud is a bit of a showstopper for me but maybe that will come one day. I am also a financial supporter of PMOS and encourage all to do so!

@allpurposemat@mastodon.gamedev.place it is really comprehensive. Thank you. I have noticed the keyboard issue with amazfish, but it seems to be just flatpak issue. I have wrote few notes about using ubuntu touch on FP5 by the way https://blog.mlich.cz/2025/09/fairphone-5-with-ubuntu-touch-first-impressions/ On UT I am experiencing kernel panic with enable/disable wifi. Additionally, I USB (mtp/adb mode) works only with "good" cables.

@allpurposemat@mastodon.gamedev.place that green location tracker icon drove me crazy too. Especially when you're watching a movie and it keeps bugging you. I vaguely remember that I managed to "fix" it on GrapheneOS, but I can't remember what I did. 🫠 I just looked at my settings and it's not listing anything accessing my location recently. And I can't see any setting there that I might have changed. 🤔 Hold on... I just double checked. I think Syncthing is what bothered me and the notification went away once I allowed it to "always" use location services, not only when the app was running. Anyway, I'm not trying to draw you back to Android. I'm worried about the same things you mentioned in your post and I really hope that we'll get a viable (as in "I can do everything with one device") alternative soon. Thanks for the amazing and indepth post.
