No wonder politics and society are in such an awful, divided state. Top tier news source, #BBCNews , writes a whole piece focused on #Widdecombe 's provocateur style ...as if that is the best trait a politician. Her words "...would splash a listener in the face and demand a reaction.". Umm, that's not a good thing. 1/ BBC News - Pugnacious, charismatic and she always answered the question - Chris Mason on Ann Widdecombe https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/czrxdnmlk5no

Even worse, #Widdecombe was "... most skilled in prosecuting what public life in a democracy is all about: being able to articulate, with clarity and conviction, what they stand for." Not aiming to improve the public good. Not lofty ideals. Not even good governance requiring compromise. Read it again. #BBCNews says the goal of public life in democracy is about ability to communicate. Yes, a needed skill. But if communication is what it "is all about", we get division.

Don’t make cheese sandwiches if you can’t afford them, #Widdecombe told struggling families back in 2023 Former Brexit Party MEP gave her answer as a way to deal with rocketing prices On the Politics Live programme, the former Brexit Party MEP said: “You don't do the cheese sandwich.” She added there was no “given right” to low food prices and spoke of how farmers would “constantly” complain to her about supermarket pricing when she was Conservative MP for Maidstone. “The only way this is going to be tackled is if inflation is going to come down,” Ms Widdecombe said. “You will not get inflation coming down if you continue to have inflationary wage rises. Separatly, Ms. Widdecombe has suggested those claiming unemployment benefits should be made to fill labour shortages by picking fruit. Speaking on Jeremy Vine on 5, she said: “I ask why it is that we've got 1.2 million people on the dole, and I do mean on the dole, on unemployment benefit. Some of them obviously wouldn't be fit enough to work at fruit picking. But 1.2 million? “And the word that is always used is that our people aren’t ‘willing’ to pick. Now ‘willing’ doesn't matter if you’re drawing public money – I think you should be forced to pick fruit and bring in the harvest." She's dead now

#WIDDECOMBE never forget Slavery Comparisons: During a maiden speech in the European Parliament, she compared the UK's exit from the EU to "slaves rising up against their owners". The comments were widely branded as disgusting and ahistorical by critics. The #MeToo Movement: While appearing on Celebrity Big Brother, she sparked outcry by dismissing the #MeToo movement as "whimpery" and claimed that the judicial system was loaded against men. COVID-19 and AIDS: During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, she faced a severe backlash for writing an article that compared the outbreak's severity and our societal reaction to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. As Prisons Minister, she infamously ensured prisoners going through childbirth remained shackled to their beds "lest they escape" Social and Moral Issues: Widdecombe consistently voted against #lgbtq rights (including equalising the age of consent and the repeal of Section 28), and has openly supported the pseudo-science of gay conversion therapy. She was a vile anachronism, and the world is better off without her

I see that Anne Widecombe has died. A selfish unpleasant, bigoted racist. I am sure there will be many carefully constructed obituaries, but I think Shakespeare had it right (even if it is a somewhat partial quote), what good was interred (to follow through the full one? ‘The evil that men do lives after them’ #obituary #shortform #widdecombe #NotMissed
