Got another "translation job" offer today. Except it wasn't a translation job at all. It was training AI. For pay that, where I live, wouldn't even reach minimum wage. But of course it was dressed up as "freelance contracting," because apparently exploitation sounds fancier if you invoice for it. No. I'm not helping build the machine that's already taking work away from translators while paying translators less than they deserve to teach it. I'd genuinely rather earn nothing than spend my time feeding your slop machine. Hard pass. #Translation #Translators #AI #WorkersRights #Freelance #NoAISlop

"Olivo eventually refused to serve as an ad hoc interpreter when her mom needed help communicating at the gynecologist's office. 'You do need to have somebody that knows what they are talking about — that have that terminology, and that they are able to really be your interpreter versus be your daughter,' Olivo said." https://www.npr.org/2026/04/16/nx-s1-5780035/rural-hospital-colorado-medical-translators #healthcare #language #LanguageAccess #translators #interpreters #families
