Digital activist & cultural shepard from Bergen, Norway. I spend my time shaking my fist towards the Silicon Valley barons while pushing free software and web social (previously known as the fediverse, or "Allheimen" in Norwegian). I also don't mind commercial software, as long as it runs on a libre operating system, as I do like me some modeled audio software and video games on Steam.

In comes @madthumbs@lemmy.world with the #SecurityThroughObscurity argument that the #SiliconValley barons have been promoting for decades now.
But what he's suggesting isn't actually wrong. You should use a #Linux distro that is properly preconfigured and vetted by a community.
This is why #Arch or #NixOS shouldn't be your first recommendation for newcomers.
In fact, if we are to go by high security standards, your first distro should be an immutable one like #Bazzite or #Silverblue.
