I read ‘top threads’ and skipped the rest. You’re not getting better results when it’s a sub known for being brigaded. -We suggest sticking with ‘new’.

Typically, this kind of anecdotal n00by nonsense accompanies newer, less heard of distros. There’s plenty of bitching and legit gripes about Mint filling forums nowadays.

It’s not just art, it’s just about anything to do with professional productivity. Linux isn’t better for development in general; it’s better for development for Linux. -This is why you see so much propaganda about it being preferred by devs; because it’s not a simple ‘not it’s not!’. The other propagandas like Libre Office, GIMP, etc., are often debunked by professionals as not being adequate in Linux’s own communities.

I have no issue with using the terminal myself, but you’re expecting other people to use something that’s foreign and unneeded when it’s not even safe to do so. Copying scripts from the internet is dangerous, and even a minor typo when you know what you’re doing can bring your system down. -Which happens even to senior system admins at times. Some people don’t want to run Linux for the same reason they don’t want a job where a slightly off measurement in a chemical factory can destroy a town.

What OS is forcing updates? -Not Windows. Desktop Linux users are so self-blinding that they ignore the main reason that they end up distro-hopping. (The never ending ‘your my fault you I chose the wrong distro’ excuse.)

Some severe cope you have here. I only tend to play 1 or 2 games at most in any time frame. -Maybe 3-6 a year. When one of those doesn’t play on Linux, that’s a huge impact on my view of Linux. -But that’s minor compared to the games that couldn’t be completed halfway through due to frame timing issues. Also, pacing games that experienced input lag. It’s worse to be stuck with a game broken midway on a shitty limited OS than to just have it not play to begin with. Maybe if you played games enough to experience problems instead of constantly having to fix your Linux; you’d see these things.

Without Windows you wouldn’t have Windows gaming. The Linux Kernel is unfavorable to game developers because of its instabilities (ABI/API) -and that’s not counting all the fragmentation after the fact. Linux users are cheap (more likely to pirate), more likely to cheat in online games, more likely to review bomb over stupid things, and more likely to demand refunds. -They don’t even develop for Mac ffs, and they have far more market share than Linux. Developers would migrate fully to consoles and full stack devices (like phones, Haiku, Mac, iPhone). Windows market share will decline because normal people are moving to devices. A smart phone is far safer to do banking on, especially compared to Linux. The change in % (if real) will simply be a decline in Windows, not an increase in Desktop Linux adoption.

It ‘was’ uCollage, but whiny, obnoxious, ungrateful LiGNUts ruined it like many other unpaid softwares by driving a critical developer (Ueberzug) to quit or sellout. Many LiGNUts probably work for Microsoft, because Microsoft gains when they cause issues, and mislead and lie to people.

Gonna ignore the sad attempts at rebuttal by someone that appears to be out of touch with reality (shunning social interactions?). Where I live? -It’s replacing depressed and lonely artists and writers. -That shit often isn’t healthy or a good way to get human interaction / attention. Engineer? -Can be high stress with lives on the line, it will also be a waste of time / schooling for many. (You’re also arguing for their accuracy here). Enter productivity sooner: retire sooner. The other jobs you mention are high pay that grunt and migrant workers can profit from. People that compare their wealth against a billionaire don’t realize that the billionaire is inspired and the wealth benefits all in capitalism. Neither pure capitalism nor communism succeed. China isn’t pure communism.

Lemmy despite having major advantages over Reddit, appeals more to conspiracy theorists, or contrarians. -People who read click-bait headlines and not the actual articles. People that like simplified explanations for things: “AI is bad for the environment”: **not ** "AI is getting more efficient and uses short bursts of processing (for simple questions or images), while computer gaming gets worse and runs 100% constant, and has the same toll on ram scarcity and environmental issues.

So, they gobble up all the negative headlines and parrot the anti-AI propaganda they’re fed.

im sure linux will solve these problems someday. Problems are inherent and haven’t been solved for 3 decades. You have unstable API/ABI in the kernel making Linux unfriendly for desktop (Android resolves it in their own way). You have anti-developer attitudes from users that drive the already poorly if not volunteer developers to quit or sellout. (Linux hates developers.) BSD has a slightly different license (still FOSS), and they don’t get the toxic community that Linux has.
