Tell your kids what physically owning media or medium means. Put in their hands something they can use themselves. Something they'll recall for years to come. A painting to put on a wall. A music CD, vinyl or cassettes for them to listen to. A dvd, Blueray or VHS for them to watch. A game on CD, cartridge or any storage for them play with. A book, an epub on a ereader for them to read. Then teach them how to copy it and backup it. Then tell them to choose one and share with a friend or leave it in a place for others to enjoy, a book on a bench, donate a game, the choice is yours. Let some time go, now choose one item that they still have and take it from them, temporarily. Tell them that the industry doesn't want them to have it anymore. Now you can tell them about what renting, streaming, and the industry at large is doing. No need to be annoying. It's now a good time to tell them that if they love something they must learn to keep it, to defend their rights to own it, because some people in this world have no issues taking it away. Then if you have the chance to own something more, share with them.
