I see Horned Grebes all the time in the winter, but back in April I saw my first one in breeding plumage. If you ever see a bunch of people with binoculars and cameras all clustered in an industrial area or as in this case an airport fence, It's probably because there's a rare bird in town. Steller's Jay - My gateway bird. I met my first one about three years ago, There he was, just sitting on a branch about three feet away from me - all blue and beautiful and full of attitude. I hadn't even known they existed. It made me wonder what else I could see if I started paying attention.
