In Greek mythology, the witch Medea falls in love with the hero Jason and helps him win the Golden Fleece. Though the two marry and produce two sons, Jason later abandons Medea to marry the princess of Corinth. In revenge, Medea murders her own sons and the princess, and leaves in a chariot pulled by flying serpents.
