When I created Cthulhu #drawing for Winter Solstice I thought about making more #Lovecraft mythos creatures in Monster Hunter Rise icon style. Now, it's time for #ShubNiggurath, The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young. I hope it's good enough both as my vision of this #goddess and this style is similar enough. I am still learning it. #art #MastoArt #CreativeToots #krita #ArtWithOpenSource #creature #deity

An interesting aspect of translating #Lovecraft is that he used extremely rare words in the full expectation that his Weird Tales audience wouldn't understand them. He could have written scaly and wrinkled, but he chose squamous and rugose for horrific effect. His horrors were indescribable to such an extent that he didn't even want the reader to understand his descriptions. And this is part of the translator's task too. #translation #horror #writing

#WritersCoffeeClub 15 April: Name a writer whose voice is just exquisite. Share a sample! I was quite enamoured with H.P. Lovecraft’s use of language, even if he does go over the top on the regular 😅 but as a horror writer, I also still regard him as a great inspiration. “The sun was blazing down from a sky which seemed to me almost black in its cloudless cruelty; as though reflecting the inky marsh beneath my feet.” #Lovecraft

“What the hell do the love letters of that old fraud H.P. Lovecraft have to do with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs?” A slight departure for National Unicorn Day – the Hugo Award-winning novella “Equoid” by Charles Stross @cstross@wandering.shop 🦄 🐙 @bookstodon@a.gup.pe https://reactormag.com/equoid/ #Scottish #literature #unicorn #NationalUnicornDay #sciencefiction #scifi #lovecraft #horror #squamous #rugose #batrachian
