#Transport for #London’s #Art on the Underground has unveiled a new sound artwork at Waterloo #Underground station by composer and artist Ain Bailey with vocalist Elaine Mitchener. Maybe It’s Because I’m A #Londoner will play on the moving walkway between the Jubilee and Northern lines until 10 July. The six-and-a-half-minute work reflects on London’s disappearing cultural spaces and their role in shaping identity, paying tribute to more than 70 former community venues, record shops, LGBTQIA+ bars and landmarks that were significant to Bailey. Mitchener performs the names of the venues alongside a reinterpretation of Hubert Gregg’s Maybe It’s Because I’m A Londoner, with lyrics also displayed on station billboards. Commissioned with the Mayor of London’s #Culture and Community Spaces at Risk programme, the installation is the third annual sound commission for Waterloo. https://tfl-newsroom.prgloo.com/news/new-sound-artwork-at-waterloo-underground-station-by-ain-bailey-with-elaine-mitchener-pays-tribute-to-londons-cultural-history
