Apparently it’s “incorrect” to believe that higher interest rates could increase inflation, the RBA says. Funny, an IMF study found actually that hiking rates *did* worsen the 2022-2025 inflation episode, with countries that did it ending up with higher peak inflation and it taking longer before inflation started to drop (after the external drivers actually causing it eased). https://www.imf.org/en/publications/wp/issues/2025/10/24/navigating-the-2022-inflation-surge-571068 #inflation #interestrates

Norway's News in English — www.newsinenglish.no | No interest rate hike yet by Nina AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Norway’s central bank held its key policy rate steady at 4.25 % on June 18, 2026, despite rising inflation, opting against the quarter‑point hike many had expected. Governor Ida Wolden Bache warned that inflation remains above the 2 % target, driven by strong business‑cost growth, high wages, and lingering uncertainty from Middle‑East tensions that affect oil prices; she signaled that further rate increases may be needed later in the year. The decision also kept the overnight lending rate at 5.25 % and the reserve rate at 3.25 %, while the Norwegian krone weakened modestly against the dollar following the announcement. Economists had largely predicted the hold, noting that a rate rise could further pressure the currency and that the central bank is prioritising stability amid mixed economic signals.
