New Grass is a 1968 album by jazz saxophonist Albert Ayler released on Impulse! Records. Fred Thomas, writing for Pitchfork, attempted to place the album in perspective, commenting: "This certainly wasn't jazz of any kind, but was too overstimulated and confused to pass for the Woodstock-generation rock'n'roll it was trying to emulate. What was this?... New Grass signaled the beginning of a descent into darkness for Ayler, one that saw him grasping at ideals of redemption and healing all the way down... Ayler's spiritual message... grew weirder and more intimate as he struggled to deliver it in a way that could be universally understood... Ayler's notion of popular music was so distanced from reality that it became its own self-contained universe." - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGNVtyjTfG4&list=RDeGNVtyjTfG4&start_radio=1 #AlbertAyler #Jazz #ImpulseRecords #Music #PrettyPurdie #FreeJazz #SpiritualJazz

Cleopatra Feelin' Jazzy is a jazz album recorded in 1963 by Paul Gonsalves. Review by Stephen Cook ...Cleopatra -- Feelin' Jazzy finds the famed Ellington soloist in the prime company of hard boppers like pianist Hank Jones, organist Dick Hyman, guitarist Kenny Burrell, bassist George Duvivier, and drummer Roy Haynes. The band shines throughout, with Hyman's organ adding exotic film theater ambience on the two North cuts that kick off the album.. Switching over to more straightforward fare, Gonsalves and company stretch out on Burrell's "Bluz for Liz" (read Elizabeth Taylor, one of the leads in the movie) and Ellington's "Action in Alexandria."..Gonsalves impresses with both complexly swinging solos and breathy ballad statements. A very fine effort by one of the unsung giants of jazz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lyk4djvVxxU&list=OLAK5uy_lgeRc58SlOkMk7TSKFG7Be6_YqG6U2fvM #PaulGonsalves #HankJones #DickHyman #KennyBurrell #GeorgeDuvivier #RoyHaynes #MannyAlbam #ImpulseRecords #Jazz #Music #Cleopatra #Ellington

Ended Tuesday and welcomed Wednesday after my swim with Ballads a jazz album by John Coltrane released in January 1963 by Impulse! Records. It was recorded in December 1961 and 1962, and released with catalogue number A-32 (mono) and AS-32 (stereo). Critic Gene Lees stated that the quartet had never played the tunes before. "They arrived with music-store sheet music of the songs" and just before the recordings, they "would discuss each tune, write out copies of the changes they'd use, semi-rehearse for a half hour and then do it". Each piece was recorded in one take, except for "All or Nothing at All". In 2008, the album was a recipient of the Grammy Hall of Fame award. - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rOMV0A5jd0&list=RD8rOMV0A5jd0&start_radio=1 #JohnColtrane #Ballads #ModalJazz #ImpulseRecords #Jazz #Music #TenorSax #McCoyTyner #ElvinJones #JimmyGarrison #ReggieWorkman

A Flat, G Flat and C is an album by American jazz multi-instrumentalist Yusef Lateef, featuring performances recorded in 1966 for the Impulse! label. The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow stated: Yusef Lateef (heard on tenor, alto, flute, oboe and the mysterious-sounding theremin) is in explorative and consistently colorful form... Lateef performs ten songs (eight are his originals) that are all at least in abstract form related to the blues. Well worth several listens. - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_P_IZ6QApw&list=RD7_P_IZ6QApw&start_radio=1 #YusefLateef #Jazz #ImpulseRecords #Music #Flute #JazzFlute #Oboe #ReggieWorkman #SpirtiualJazz

Ended the week and started the weekend with The October Suite an album by American jazz pianist Steve Kuhn and composer/arranger/conductor Gary McFarland featuring performances recorded in 1966 for the Impulse! label. The Allmusic review by Thom Jurek awarded the album 4½ stars stating "it is an anomaly in the Impulse catalog of the time in that it did not pursue the free jazz realms with the vengeance that most of the label's other acts did during that year" - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFi3S37NRNY&list=OLAK5uy_kFfcGRazZT1VhITcRYzO7m0WnNnQQCq48 #SteveKuhn #GaryMcFarland #ImpulseRecords #Jazz #SpiritualJazz #Music

Jazz 'n' Samba is an album by American jazz vibraphonist Milt Jackson featuring performances recorded in 1964 for the Impulse! label. The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow stated "This is an odd LP. The first session is a conventional one... The flip side substitutes two guitars for Flanagan's piano and uses bossa nova rhythms in hopes of getting a hit" - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxJ7sTLEUXA&list=PLn39KQ-d2okUdb-vobuUwcCE66L4cqk50&index=1 #MiltJackson #BossaNova #Vibraphone #Jazz #Music #ImpulseRecords

Love Cry is a 1968 album by jazz saxophonist Albert Ayler, released on Impulse! Records in 1968. An article in Jazzwise stated: "The swirling psychedelic typography that adorns the cover of this often overlooked album from Ayler's discography hints at the direction he was heading at the time. Along with John Coltrane's Om and Archie Shepp’s The Magic of Ju Ju, this was experimental acid jazz at its most potent." - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvyBNTWzbLg&list=PL511fSPfMr9IGJCwwOTvIOQIfwWosgzlG&index=1 #AlbertAyler #FreeJazz #Jazz #ImpulseRecords #Music #AlanSilva #MilfordGraves

Live at Newport is a live album by the jazz pianist McCoy Tyner. It was released on January 9, 1964, through Impulse! Records. It features performances from bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Mickey Roker, with trumpeter Clark Terry and alto saxophonist Charlie Mariano appearing on three of the five tracks.
