The Never Ending Impressions is an album by the American soul music group The Impressions which was released on January 9, 1964. Review by John Bush The Never Ending Impressions, the first record to boast the full collaborative power of Johnny Pate and Curtis Mayfield, pushed the idea of the trio as a supper-club act, with covers of "Satin Doll," "September Song," and "Lemon Tree" among the questionable -- if not misguided -- covers. The group's immense talents prevent any of these versions from being complete failures, but they sound much more assured on Mayfield originals like the ballad "I'm So Proud," a Top 20 hit on both the R&B and pop charts. Scattered among the adult pop chestnuts are a few good songs, including the up-tempo "Sister Love" and a pair of great overlooked Chicago soul nuggets: "Girl You Don't Know Me" and "A Woman Who Loves Me." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7Cbm7p9y6I&list=OLAK5uy_l6OMw7dNwOrkjdlOjf-x9pz9y49NGigCs #CurtisMayfield #TheImpressions #JohnnyPate #ChicagoSoul #Soul #Music

Meet the Temptations is the debut studio album by the Temptations for the Gordy (Motown) label released in 1964. Review by Bruce Eder The Temptations' first LP, released three years into the group's history with Motown, is also a great record, even though it wasn't really an album so much as a collection of their early singles, hooked around their then new hit, "The Way You Do the Things You Do." Those expecting the classic Temptations sound should also be aware that David Ruffin is absent from all of the tracks except "The Way You Do the Things You Do," which was cut just after he joined, replacing Elbridge "Al" Bryant. The LP represents the evolution of the act and its sound, as well as a succession of producers... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJiWcJrgMUU&list=PLTGZr8YmZMtv-vzqgtToSJpvg6nrnBwuz&index=1 #Temptations #Motown #Soul #60spop #SmokeyRobinson #Music

Music Of Nubia by Hamza El Din , released on Vanguard in 1964. Haunting work from Hamza El Din – a spare album that mostly features work on the oud, that mystical instrument that has a short plucked stringy kind of sound. There's also vocals on a few tracks, and one number features guest bass work by Ahmed Abdul Malik, and another features bongos by Sandy Bull. Titles include "Fegir Nedan", "Kuto Fa Pattaroni", "Nubala", and "Nabra" - Disty Groove https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpZdi38EwD0&list=PLMWDFaeVMZP2q2QT0jZijf7eInYdGYkVh&index=1 #HamzaElDin #Vanguard #Music #Nubia #Oud #AhmedAbdulMalik #SandyBull

Fame At Last by George Fame, released in 1964 on Columbia. Review by Dave Thompson ...A blistering romp through Fame & His Blue Flames' live repertoire of the day, fast and loose and driving, it captures one of Britain's best-ever R&B troupes stepping so far beyond the customary precepts of the Beat Boom that, if you were to come to this record without knowing who it was, there's no way you'd ever guess a bunch of (predominantly) Londoners were responsible. To pull out any highlights is to indicate that there are any corresponding low-lights -- there aren't. But a "Green Onions" so sweet that you can taste it captures the group in full flame, while Willie Dixon's "I Love the Life I Live" has rarely sounded so supreme.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5aWUaNfTZA&list=OLAK5uy_nRUwT7eAo10X3KDDZObuWKAIglqxrGA7g&index=1 #GeorgeFame #Jazz #Blues #BritishBeat #BeatBoom #Music #Mod

Scott Yanow awarded the album 4 stars stating "All of the many collaborations between organist Shirley Scott and tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine in the 1960s resulted in high-quality soul jazz, groovin' music that was boppish enough to interest jazz listeners and basic enough for a wider audience" - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuqPKhuS7hQ&list=RDCuqPKhuS7hQ&start_radio=1 #ShirleyScott #StanleyTurrentine #HardBop #soulJazz #PrestigeRecords #Jazz #Music

Return Visit! (issued as Tubby's Back In Town by Smash in the US) is an album by British jazz saxophonist Tubby Hayes, recorded in June 1962 and released on Fontana Records in 1963. Produced by Quincy Jones[2] and featuring the "All Stars" of Roland Kirk, James Moody, Walter Bishop, Jr., Sam Jones, and Louis Hayes, the session is notable for being Hayes's second to be recorded in the United States, following Tubbs in N.Y. in 1962. The line-up unusually includes three tenor saxophonists, all of whom double on other instruments. Hayes wrote in the sleeve notes to the UK release that, "My feelings were somewhat mixed, possibly apprehensive. I was about to record with great American jazz men who knew nothing about the date until the day before and whom, apart from the piano player, I had never met."- Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCGiCDg-61Q&list=RDLCGiCDg-61Q&start_radio=1 #TubbyHayes #RolandKirk #Jazz #Music #JamesMoody #SamJones #WalterBishop #LouisHayes

Today I went for a ride to Ashton Canal Park between the canal of the same name and the River Medlock after it emerges from under the City Stadium on the former site of Bradford Colliery in East Manchester to see if the wild fritillaries there were flowering yet. They were, and I got the bonus of an orange fungus and harvesting wild garlic. Unfortunately, the park is marred by fly-tipping. It would be good if the council put as much effort into litter picking as they put into completely unnecessary grass mowing! #SnakesHeadFritillary #Manchester #Ancoats #RiverMedlock #AshtonCanal #SpringFlowers

Ended Thursday and welcomed Friday after a walk with Vince Guaraldi, Bola Sete and Friends (stylized as Vince Guaraldi \ Bola Sete \ and Friends) is a collaboration between pianist Vince Guaraldi and guitarist Bola Sete released in January 1964 by Fantasy Records. It was Guaraldi's fourth studio album and the first of three studio collaborations with Sete. Guaraldi historian and author Derrick Bang offered equal praise, stating that Guaraldi and Sete represented "the perfect musical marriage," adding that Vince Guaraldi, Bola Sete and Friends is "most consistent" of their three album collaborations. Cashbox cited the album as a Jazz Pick: "Here's a delightful musical marriage spotlighting the distinctive musical talents of Bola Sete and Vince Guaraldi ... The two jazzmen compliment each other as they turn in superlative renditions of 'Days of Wine and Roses,' 'Star Song' and 'Moon Rays.' - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeB1kht5u5Q&list=PL9reB0DlKm6tDCmv_mGwQKIKVjCpwMXF0&index=1 #VinceGuaraldi #BolaSete #Music #Jazz #JazzPiano

Spring Fever by The Jazz Brothers feat. Chuck Mangione, Gap Mangione, Sal Nistico released on Riverside in 1961. From The Liner Notes: "The mode of expression for The Jazz Brothers is a modern, hard-swinging one, tempered by softer (but no less swinging) performances. The former vein is exemplified by Chuck Mangiones Brooks Brothers (a punning reference to an up-state New York disc jockey) and Spring Fever, and by Frank Pullaras Not Too Serious. The quietest moments are found on the celebrated standard ballad, What's New?, which contains a long, expressive Nestico solo, sandwiched by some sensitive muted work by Chuck..." https://www.mangionemagic.com/spring-fever.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTJjLDuiyUM&list=RDjTJjLDuiyUM&start_radio=1 #JazzBrothers #ChuckMangione #GapMangione #RiversideRecords #Jazz #HardBop #Music #SalNistico

Jazz Showcase by The Mastersounds released on World Pacific in 1957. Jazz Profiles wrote on their blog: "At World Pacific, The Mastersounds first LP – Jazz Showcase … Introducing the Mastersounds [PJM-403] incorporated many tunes and arrangements that had become staples of their repertoire during the group’s tenure at the club including a spirited [an oft-requested] version of Bud Powell’s Un Poco Loco, Wes’ Tune by Wes Montgomery, and Dexter’s Deck by tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon. This debut album also offers intriguing Buddy Montgomery arrangements on such standards as Lover, If I Should Lose You, That Old Devil Moon and Spring is Here." https://jazzprofiles.blogspot.com/2020/07/remembering-mastersounds.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw4Wes2M2mk #TheMastersounds #Jazz #WorldPacific #Vibraphone #BuddyMontgomery #Music #MonkMontgomery

Allmusic awarded the album 4 stars, with its review by Thom Jurek stating: "this is not an exploratory outside date, but a straight-ahead session of originals and standards, divided between uptempo numbers and ballads. ...For all its traditionalism, this is indeed a major date for Lasha and reveals how deeply ensconced he was in the bop and swing lineages." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAGF6Cxnhjw&list=RDPAGF6Cxnhjw&start_radio=1 #PrinceLasha #DavidSnell #Harp #Jazz #Music #StanTracey

Blow-Up is a soundtrack album by American jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, featuring music composed for Michelangelo Antonioni's 1966 film Blowup. MGM Records released the album in the United States on 20 February 1967, and in the United Kingdom on 10 May. The album features performances by Hancock, trumpeters Freddie Hubbard and Joe Newman, alto saxophonist Phil Woods, tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, guitarist Jim Hall, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Although Jimmy Smith is credited with playing organ on the album, some sources claim it was actually Paul Griffin who was at the sessions - Wikipedia I re-watched the film last year after reading the short story that inspired it by Julio Cortázar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LA8U703G_s&list=PLkAUJkbhd-RjzIXr_NXGzvpOcqLH1pxEi&index=1 #BlowUp #Soundtrack #HerbieHancock #Jazz #MichelangeloAntonioni #SwingingLondon #Music #JulioCortazar

Ended Saturday and welcomed Sunday with Movements in Colour an album by British jazz saxophonist and composer Andy Sheppard recorded in February 2008 and released on ECM the following year.

Tyran Grillow rote for ECM Reviews:

British saxophonist Andy Sheppard’s ECM debut is a phenomenon in sound. A musician of remarkable integrity, Sheppard takes full advantage of the opportunity to broaden his reach farther than ever before. For this project, he indulges in his Indian, African, and Latin affinities, as reflected in the eclectic lineup that shapes this set into something greater than the sum of its parts...

Ended the week and welcomed the weekend with Cluster (also reissued as Cluster 71) is the debut studio album by German electronic music outfit Cluster. It was recorded in 1971 and released the same year by record label Philips. It is also the only album on which producer Conny Plank is credited as a member. The Wire placed Cluster's self-titled debut album in their list "One Hundred Records That Set the World on Fire". [and] wrote that Cluster "prefigures illbient by about 20 years, parts of it sounding uncannily like DJ Spooky", while crediting "patches of regular thudding thudding pulse" for conjuring up "a malformed techno". They praised the album for fusing new possibilities for "electronic noise production" with the "repetitions and resonances" of dub music, resulting in music that resembles "space music with a severe hangover." - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC7vjYN9o2o&list=RDcC7vjYN9o2o&start_radio=1 #Cluster #ConnyPlank #Ambient #Illbient #Kosmishe # #HansJoachimRoedelius #DieterMoebius #Music

Our Kind Of Sabi by Eddie Louiss, John Surman, and Daniel Humair released on MPS in 1971.

The brilliant French Hammond organist and pianist Eddy Louiss worked with the likes of Kenny Clarke, Jean-Luc Ponty, and Stan Getz; reed player John Surman and drummer Daniel Humair have long been major forces on the European scene. Louiss also recorded the title piece on Stan Getz’s Dynasty album – here the trio presents a wilder version with fiery solos from Surman’s baritone and Louiss on Hammond. This trio likes their Sabi hot with a Spanish tinge. On the Martinique folk song Zafe Ko Ida, the great Norwegian bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pederson joins Louiss on Marimba and Humair on drums, keeping with the tradition of the Caribbean before Eddy switches to piano and the three transform the sound of the islands into swinging jazz....

Green Is Beautiful is an album by American jazz guitarist Grant Green featuring performances recorded in 1970 and released on the Blue Note label. The Allmusic review by Steve Huey awarded the album 3 stars and stated "Green Is Beautiful finds the guitarist growing more comfortable with harder, funkier R&B than he seemed on the softer-hued Carryin' On... Green Is Beautiful proves that Green's reinvention as a jazz-funk artist wasn't the misguided disaster it was initially made out to be". - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hL8NuQZWXnI&list=OLAK5uy_kRTGSbXj3oUyw6vseRCT8e9JEsoKXu9-8 #GrantGreen #BlueNote #Jazz #Funk #JamesBrown #TheBeatles #JazzGuitar #Music

Comme à la radio is the fourth album by experimental French singer Brigitte Fontaine, recorded with Areski Belkacem (in their first collaboration) and the Art Ensemble of Chicago. It was released in 1969 on the Saravah label after a series of concerts in 1969. It is Fontaine's most famous album, and is known outside of France on the 1990s alt-rock scene, thanks to laudatory comments from Beck and Sonic Youth The album received the Grand Prix du Disque of the Académie Charles Cros that same year. The single "Comme à la radio" has been covered by Japanese artist Jun Togawa in 2000 - Wikipedia I picked this up in a bargain bin in the 80s, knowing the Art Ensemble but not Brigitte Fontaine. Taking a chance was rewarded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmpW0soAwok&list=RDFmpW0soAwok&start_radio=1 #BrigetteFontaine #ArtEnsembleofChcago #Areski #Jazz #VocalJazz #Music #FrenchMusic #Chanson #ChamberJazz

FTA! Songs Of The GI Resistance by Barbara Dane, released on Paredon in 1970. "As opposition to the Vietnam War increased in the late 1960s, it began to emerge in the military community itself, primarily led by young draftees. Folk singer and political activist Barbara Dane lent her voice and support to resisting solders in a series of recorded performances at GI coffee houses near Army bases in Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina. The songs are a mix of traditional songs of protest and resistance, and original songs by Dane and draft resisters. New Africa is an album by American trombonist Grachan Moncur III recorded in 1969 and released on the BYG Actuel label in the same year. It features alto saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell (Art Ensemble of Chicago), pianist Dave Burrell, bassist Alan Silva and drummer Andrew Cyrille. Tenor saxophonist Archie Shepp performs on the final track. A reviewer of Dusty Groove wrote: "..The session features Moncur hitting an Archie Shepp-ish, spiritual vein in his playing – recorded in Paris with a group that includes Shepp, Roscoe Mitchell, Dave Burrell, and Andrew Cyrille. Side one's mostly the long suite 'New Africa', but it also includes the great composition 'Space Spy' – and side two features the tracks 'When' and 'Exploration'. The whole album's incredible – much more soulful than some of Moncur's 'new thing' recordings, and equally compelling!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkU54RExUk0&list=RDgkU54RExUk0&start_radio=1 #GrachanMoncurIll #NewThing #FreeJazz #BYGActuel #Jazz #Trombone #Music #AlanSilva #RoscoeMitchell #ArchieShepp

It's So Hard to Tell Who's Going to Love You the Best is the debut album by American folk blues musician Karen Dalton, originally released in 1969 by Capitol Records

The album was subsequently reissued on CD by the Koch label in 1997. Extended liner notes were written by Peter Stampfel of the Holy Modal Rounders, who writes:

She was the only folk singer I ever met with an authentic 'folk' background. She came to the folk music scene under her own steam, as opposed to being 'discovered' and introduced to it by people already involved in it." - Wikipedia

Happy Trails is the second album of the American band Quicksilver Messenger Service. Most of the album was recorded from two performances at the Fillmore East and Fillmore West, although it is not clear which parts were recorded at which Fillmore. The record was released by Capitol Records in 1969 in stereo. The first side of the album consists entirely of a live performance of Bo Diddley's song, "Who Do You Love?". In a self-deprecating poke at the rendition's extended length, it is listed as the "Who Do You Love Suite", with individually titled "movements" which give writing credits to the soloist on each segment. The performance of Bo Diddley's composition breaks down into a guitar solo by Gary Duncan in a style somewhere between jazz and rock.. - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL6Nk0FnH2g&list=RDYL6Nk0FnH2g&start_radio=1 #QuicksilverMessengerService #Psychedelia #Music #SFscene #FillMoreEast #FillmoreWest #GaryDuncan #JohnCipollina

Goin' West is an album by American jazz guitarist Grant Green featuring performances recorded in 1962 but not released on the Blue Note label until 1969. It is a loose concept album inspired by Western music. It features pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Billy Higgins. The All About Jazz review by Colin Fleming stated "Goin' West, though nominally a country and western recording, moves us into the realm of folk music—bluegrass folk music and clippity-clappity cowboy tunes... Having said that, it would be hard to imagine Goin' West being a greater delight, a straight forward, unencumbered jazz delight—finesse jazz is a readily applicable moniker... Goin' West is an intriguing release nonetheless" - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a5DpNbwJe8&list=RD_a5DpNbwJe8&start_radio=1 #GrantGreen #BlueNote #HerbieHancocck #ReggieWorkman #BillyHiggins #Jazz #Country #Music #BlueNote

Brer Soul is the debut studio album of Melvin Van Peebles. Released in 1968, the album introduced Van Peebles as a recording artist, following his work as an independent filmmaker, playwright and novelist. It is notable for its use of sprechgesang, a vocal style which lies between speaking and singing. Unlike later albums, which are more varied in style, Brer Soul features an experimental spoken word style, with soul jazz instrumentation. Van Peebles' unconventional songwriting style has since been cited as an influence on hip hop music and rapping. - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrAxMUxeFDA&list=PLMpbJrT3jaB6T6HfpBo-PrTnnl7231C4W&index=1 #MelvinVanPeebles #Sprechgesang #Music #SoulJazz #SpokenWord

A Natural Woman is a 1969 album by Peggy Lee. It was arranged and conducted by Bobby Bryant and Mike Melvoin. John Engstead took the cover photograph. Review by John Bush A Natural Woman was her most successful fusion yet, thanks to the work of arrangers/conductors/upstarts Mike Melvoin and Bobby Bryant (neither of whom were true youngsters, though Melvoin had apparently gleaned much from session work with the Beach Boys, Curt Boettcher, and Judy Collins)...Lee does perform a superb version of Randy Newman's "I Think It's Going to Rain Today" (Newman actually arranged "Is That All There Is?"), and utterly transforms the one standard from an earlier era, Billie Holiday's classic "Don't Explain.".. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxF7V56mmxc&list=RDBxF7V56mmxc&start_radio=1 #PeggyLee #RandyNewman #60sPop #Soul #VocalJazz #BobbyBryant #MikeMelvoin #FemaleSinger #Music

Malma Maliny by Jan Hammer Trio, released in 1969 on MPS. Recorded ‘live’ at Munich’s legendary Domicile jazz club a few years before Czech composer/keyboardist Jan Hammer leaped to fame with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, this album highlights Hammer’s compositional and organ/piano skills. Czech bassist George Mraz, has worked with everyone from Oscar Peterson to Joe Lovano, and the versatile Dutch drummer Cees See completes the trio. The album begins with the funky 24 bar blues Make Love featuring Jan’s standout piano and a soulful bowed bass. Hammer switches to organ on Waltz For Ivana as Mraz dances through the piece... https://www.mps-music.com/releases/malma-maliny/?portfolioID=21 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMZKBoLCgRQ&list=RDsMZKBoLCgRQ&start_radio=1 #JanHammer #GeorgeMraz #JazzPianoTrio #Jazz #Music #MPS #MusikProduktionSchwarzwald

Something Else from the Move is a five-track live EP by the English pop band the Move, released on 21 June 1968 through Regal Zonophone. The Move established themselves with a series of singles that reached the top-five in the UK singles chart, generating hype for an album. After rumours about a live LP began circulating, the Move's manager Tony Secunda pitched an idea about recording an EP of live performances at the Marquee Club in central London. Reflecting the Move's setlist on stage, Something Else from the Move is exclusively made up of covers of songs by contemporary pop bands such as Love and 1950s singers such as Eddie Cochran. The EP has an eclectic blend between rockabilly and psychedelic music. - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Fl065L5lSA&list=RD2Fl065L5lSA&start_radio=1 #TheMove #TheByrds #Psychedelia #EddieCochran #Music #Beat #Mod #BritishInvasion #SpookyTooth #JerryLeeLewis

"This 1967 release, another exploratory J.E. Berendt production, combines a classical Indian trio of sitar, tambura, and tabla with jazz piano trio and two horns striding in between. Sitar player Dewan Motihar leads the Indian trio. A star on All-India Radio, Motihar journeyed to London where he worked on the sound tracks to the Beatle’s “Help”, and with Herbie Hancock on Antonioni’s iconic film “Blow Up”. The Swiss pianist Irene Schweizer has been one of the top European players for years...The three pieces are originals, all based on ragas, classical Indian scales each of which are based on a particular mood, occasion, time of day, year, etc..." https://www.mps-music.com/releases/jazz-meets-india/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1AEoRZ00A4 #RagaJazz #Raga #Jazz #Music #MPS #DewanMotihar #ManfredSchoof #BarneyWillen #IreneSchweizer #Sitar

Time for Tyner is the ninth album as a leader by jazz pianist McCoy Tyner and his third released on the Blue Note label. It was recorded in May 1968 and features performances by Tyner with vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, bassist Herbie Lewis, and drummer Freddie Waits. Harvey Pekar, writing for DownBeat in a contemporary review, said Tyner's playing was "quite inspired and vigorous" and that Tyner "seemingly always performs with discipline and good taste."[4] The Penguin Guide to Jazz selected this album as part of its suggested "Core Collection", calling it "a powerhouse performance from first to last." - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCzsjz6OC1g&list=RDCCzsjz6OC1g&start_radio=1 #McCoyTyner #BobbyHutcherson #Jazz #BlueNote #Music

The Grass Is Greener by Grassella Oliphant released on Atlantic in 1967. Review by Stephen Cook ...With guitarist Grant Green and B-3 master John Patton completing the classic organ combo setup, the trio particularly stretch out on fine numbers like "Cantaloupe Woman" and Patton's own "Soul Woman." While these cuts are marked by a progressive, almost modal sound, much of the other material, which also features tenor saxophonist Harold Ousley and trumpeter Clark Terry, has a more down home and groove-heavy flavor; this is especially true on Terry's "Peaches Are Better Down the Road" and a cover of Allen Toussaint's classic bit of New Orleans soul, "Get Out of My Life Woman." Other standouts include a rendition of Marvin Gaye's "Ain't That Peculiar" and Ousley's breezy Latin swinger "The Latter Days." A great set. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8JfOvdKa-Q #GrassellaOliphant #ClarkTerry #JohnPatton #GrantGreen #Jazz #SoulJazz #Music

Presenting Joe Williams and Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, the Jazz Orchestra is a 1966 big band jazz album recorded by Joe Williams with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra and released on the Solid State Records label. Review by Scott Yanow Accompanied by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, the singer is heard at the peak of his powers. The big band primarily functions as an ensemble (Snooky Young gets off some good blasts on "Nobody Knows the Way I Feel This Morning"), but the inventive Thad Jones arrangements ensure that his illustrious sidemen have plenty to play. Many of the selections (half of which have been in the singer's repertoire ever since) are given definitive treatment on this set (particularly a humorous "Evil Man Blues," "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You," and "Smack Dab in the Middle"), and Williams scats at his best on "It Don't Mean a Thing." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeNn4JqOZ8A&list=OLAK5uy_mQWlXcOTk-X3S6U3aOctsTXxNI9BPV81M #JoeWilliams #ThadJones #MelLewis #BigBand #Jazz #VocalJazz #Music #SoildState #BlueNote

Sonny's Dream (Birth of the New Cool) is an album by saxophonist Sonny Criss recorded in 1968 and released on the Prestige label. AllMusic awarded the album 4 stars with its review by Scott Yanow stating, "The altoist is backed for the set by a nonet arranged by the great Los Angeles legend Horace Tapscott. The arrangements are challenging but complementary to Criss' style, and he is in top form on the six Tapscott originals... highly recommended for both Criss' playing and Tapscott's writing". The Penguin Guide to Jazz identified it as part of their recommended "core collection". - Wikipedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drobQ1BlnWc&list=RDdrobQ1BlnWc&start_radio=1 #SonnyCriss #HoraceTapscott #Jazz #PrestigeRecords #Music #TpmmyFlanagan

Sir John Alot Of Merrie Englandes Musyk Thyng & Ye Grene Knyghte by John Renbourn released on Transatlantic Records in 1968. Review by Bruce Eder An instrumental album (originally called Sir John Alot of Merrie England) featuring John Renbourn with his Pentangle bandmate Terry Cox on percussion and Ray Warleigh on flute. Originally released in England in 1968, the same year that Pentangle started to record, Sir John Alot was steeped largely in English folk music. Highlights include "The Trees They Do Grow High" (aka "Long A-Growing"), solo guitar miniatures such as "Lady Goes to Church," the epic "Morgana," with its sharply nuanced tempo and timbre changes, and the sprightly "My Dear Boy.".. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9HFxkr8abg&list=OLAK5uy_lTwgEENcm3DL2888TWIarsj9OS-8Tqf-0 #JohnRenbourn #TerryCox #Pentangle #FolkMusic #RayWarleigh #Music
