In case anyone needs to know, if you jostle an inflorescence of yarrow over a piece of white paper, very small (1 mm) wasps fall out. Most tend to hop around instead of flying away. Extremely hard to photograph, disappearing and reappearing like miniature Nightcrawlers from the X-Men universe. Am going to chill some plants to slow them down, so stay tuned if you're interested. You're interested, right?? #wasps #yarrow #achillea #insects #hymenoptera
Southern bronze furrow bee (Halictus confusus), also known as the confused sweat bee, exploring a field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis) flower and snuggling the stamen.

Tennessee collared ant (Aphaenogaster tennesseensis), from Thompson Park:
(There were a couple of trees crawling with these little cuties, but it was still hard to get a good picture, even with the macro lens. They were too busy to pose for me! I do have several other photos of bright orange ant butts attached to a motion blur, though.

Closeup of an eastern carpenter bee (Xylocopa virginica) we found on the sidewalk.
I didn't notice at the time, but she seems to be missing an antenna. I tried to offer her some water and she moved off into the grass which was hopefully a bit safer.

So I don't think I mentioned this on here, but a couple weeks ago, walking to the grocery store, I was surprised to find a couple of *beautiful* metallic green sweat bees peeking out of burrows in a rather weedy, neglected, half-bare corner of yard, right by the sidewalk. Today I saw them again and was taking pictures when one of the residents was coming home. I was like, "Did you know you have BEES" and pointed them out to her, and she was very excited! She mentioned they make sure to leave leaf litter over the winter for better insect habitat. I went on my way and when I glanced back she was also stooping down to take pictures of them.

A little bee friend (best guess is Heriades carinata) on an ox-eye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare), from this morning's hike on the Wiley Trails:

This black carpenter ant (Camponotus pennsylvanicus) was very busy exploring a leafy plant, but I was still able to get some glamor shots with my macro lens:
