Dear friends I am no step nearer to,

  • Formatting an olde Linux thumbdrive from my local library running the scamware Windows11 (lobster spits like a cameloid)
  • Librarians are very helpful if helpless
  • The librarians including their resident computer bodhi did kindly contact the 'only by remote access' small security team at Wandsworth council

That means I will have to wait for EasyOS to offer this capacity (is coming) or try again running dd, gparted and the usual bag of trickery at home.

Today I Learned: That the included program ‘ntfsfix’ can be used to clear the record of bad sectors on a Windows partition. I had cloned a Windows system from a bad hard drive that had some bad sectors. The file system log that noted those bad sectors came over in the clone, even though the drive I cloned it to is fine and has no bad sectors. Found the problem when I was trying to use gparted to shrink the partition. sudo ntfsfix -bd /dev/sda4 After running that, gparted let me shrink the partition #Linux #gparted #ntfsfix

#Ventoy ist eigentlich die Sache, um #linux Live zu starten. Ich hab da ein gutes Dutzend Distris drauf. Von #clonezille, #systemrescue, #gparted und so paar Desktop Systeme wie #linuxmint #endeavouros oder #mxlinux für verschiedene Zwecke. Heute bin ich über https://distrosea.com #distrosea gestolpert. Ok, die eigene Hardware kann man nicht testen und das Netzwerk ist auch deaktiviert. Aber man kann im Browser so einiges ansehen und probieren - ohne das System neu zu starten. 👍 cool!

@bekopharm@indieweb.social Using #gparted live-cd I have successfully resized the boot partition on other machines by shrinking and moving the other ones. But I’ll keep this test VM with this /boot size, just for the fun of it 😜
