The result of a couple of weeks deep in the world of optical networking: my O2/CETIN fiber now terminates in an SFP+ stick, not the ISP's ONT box. Turns out XGS-PON stick modules run OpenWrt inside — and I simply couldn't walk past that. I've loved OpenWrt since forever. For the first time in my life, my home internet is faster than the connection on my datacenter servers. For once, the bottleneck isn't here, it's there. Meaning, I can self-host stuff right here at the same speed as over there. And I already have a couple of ideas on WHAT to host, on top of what I'm already running (and more efficient backups, obviously). It's just a shame about the quality of the installation work. Seriously, unbelievable. Outside, the fiber cable wasn't even properly secured; it's just dangling off the wall with a couple of zip ties in the most pathetic way. If someone walks by on the inner pavement, they could easily snap it. I'll have to take some time and try to fix it myself... but overall, the outcome is still extremely positive. And finally, I have native IPv6, without needing any more Tunnel Brokers. #FTTH #ipv6 #WeNeedMooarIPV6

"Dear customer, although we have already scheduled and canceled your appointment three times, we regret to inform you that the technician who was supposed to drop by today between 14:30 and 16:30 has encountered an unexpected issue and will not be able to make it. In other words, would you accept an appointment in 15 days?" I bit their heads off. I am absolutely furious. This is the third time I've had to cancel work commitments just for them to pull this. The sheer mediocrity of how this whole thing is being managed is irritating, to say the least. #FTTH
