Why move once if you can move twice? The art and beauty of Fediverse becoming known to me. Of the much loved and hated #Forkiverse, a brief week at a cookie eating and welcoming place in Germany, now joining the monochrome world of @beige.party. And my oh my am I looking forward to this new life fitting right in with my wardrobe palette and being adequately weird to fit right in. My posts are polls, #lifewithkids and #howto, as most recently seen with fedi mobile app assessments, cartwheels and lunches at the beach. What a combination, huh? Please welcome me! I like it here! ❤️🙏 #introduction

⚠️ Are you on the servers TheForkiverse.com or Toot.Community? Both of these are closing down very soon! You need to transfer your account as soon as possible to another server if you want to keep your followers etc. The transfer has to happen before your current server closes down. Here's an easy-to-understand step-by-step guide to transferring: ➡️ https://fedi.tips/transferring-your-mastodon-account-to-another-server Here's a list of over 100 good reliable servers to transfer to: ➡️ https://fedi.garden #Forkiverse #TootCommunity

I heard that the server #theForkiverse may shut down soon. No surprise, its admins have stopped communicating on it MONTHS ago. A moment of gratitude to the #Forkiverse for bringing 10k new people to the Fediverse... and with 750+ sticking around 🥳 (Please backup your account and move to a new server ASAP) I'm especially grateful for @jonassmith@mstdn.dk who tried out the Forkiverse, loved it so much that he brought the place where he works - the National Gallery of Denmark! - on the Fediverse: @smk@expressional.social 🚀

Oh no. New instance. New #introduction. Life has been unfair to my original home #Forkiverse. Some of us liked this journey so much that we now choose to find a new home and continue the adventure. My new loved home have a crazy long character count. This could be a very long toot. Or there could be very long toots coming in the future. My fedi interactions are friendly, often poll based, often quirky, ironic and analytical. Come join the party, we have cookies 🍪

Hey y'all, my name is Jaye, I'm a late 30s trans woman, married to an amazing woman, have a bunch of kiddos, love music (both listening and playing), spending time outdoors, and trying to be fully present in everyday life. As a former member of the #Forkiverse, I felt right at home with the fellow geeks, but with the announcement of its closure, I wanted to find a nice sunny place to plant a garden, and landed here, yay! 🍃 Anywho, looking forward to getting to know y'all, and following along in your various journeys. ❤️ Jaye #introduction

I was reading the message from Casey Newton about stopping Hard Fork and going all in on AI in a new podcast. One thing he mentioned is that he stood up Hard Fork to focus on crypto currencies. But within a really short time, NFTs and all that rot faded away and they started talking about AI. They kept the name, but it was AI focused. I remember he said something about how unfortunate it was to get into it just before a lot of it collapsed. Now he’s shuttering Hard Fork to focus on… AI. I suspect this will play out similarly. He’ll get a single digit number of episodes out before the AI bubble crashes. I think September 2026 is late to launch some new kind of AI focused podcast. Time will tell. #theforkiverse lasted 9 months. Let’s see how prescient they are about what new AI podcast the world needs. I’m skeptical. #forkiverse

Time for an #introduction *gulp* I’m a 30 something Creative Director but very much on the tools as a digital graphic designer by trade. I love design, art, pop-culture, movies, music, podcasts and at one stage wanted to be a fashion designer so I’m also very interested in the fashion world. Expect the occasional #fitcheck. I spent some time on the #forkiverse and now I’m here in da garden! I’m trying to escape the algorithms, get inspired and help create a kind and respectful internet. ok👋🏾

…a core media and podcast following: watch and learn from their early work. I'm looking forward to seeing this brand-new community form here as new fans join the open social web for the first time, much like the community thriving at the #Forkiverse around the Hard Fork podcast. I've underestimaed before the power of focused open social web servers, great to see another example of it forming. Everyone on the Fediverse and Bluesky, please welcome the Find Out community to the open… 🧵 2/3

(Ironic I know as i founded one based on the #Indieweb community) Those are as important or more than big general purpose servers. Go #Forkiverse. Power on. May more such communities follow your lead! 🧵 2/2

Very glad to see the #HardFork and SearchEngine podcast Fediverse community the #Forkiverse server continuing to thrive. So they are at 10,000 or so registered users, and hovering at a healthy 1.4 thousand of those as monthly active users. That tracks to normal rates on social. And the conversations are active and growing. I think I underestimated the power of focused, topic-based server communities on the fediverse. 🧵 1/2

"The editors of The Nation magazine are in the process of formally nominating the city of Minneapolis and its people for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The following nomination statement, which is addressed to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the five-member body that is charged by the Parliament of Norway with selecting the recipient of the Peace Prize, has been prepared for submission on Friday." https://www.thenation.com/article/activism/the-nation-nominates-minneapolis-for-the-nobel-peace-prize/ #Minneapolis #Forkiverse #NobelPeacePrice #Friedensnobelpreis

@OKdad@theforkiverse.com I think this is a misunderstanding, but there is also a lack of information about why people in the Fediverse often value photos that include alt text. An alternative would be to simply hide all photos without alt text. This works with most ActivityPub projects. It would therefore be easy for people to hide these images or block people who refuse to comply (this is not about forgetting to do so occasionally). Why do people point this out? The Fediverse brings together many people who reject the increasing practice of right-wing media actors to exclude people. That is why active anti-discrimination practices are part of the moderation rules found in almost all Fediverse systems, despite all their differences. The instance “theforkiverse.com” also writes in its rules: "Be inclusive of all people and points of view. This is particularly true for Black, Indigenous, and people of color, and people in the LBGTQ+ community. We will remove any homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, or racist content without discussion." Even if it is not explicitly stated, in my view this also implies corresponding behavior against the exclusion of people on the basis of a disability. Tolerating intolerant behavior has not worked since the “tolerance paradox” at the latest. People want to have a better virtual social network in the Fediverse; they don't want minorities or people who are discriminated against and excluded on the major right-wing platforms because of a disability to be marginalized. That's why many people are campaigning for users who post photos to remember to include alt text. Without alt text, people who rely on screen readers because they have visual impairments are excluded. How can it be that advocating for inclusion is perceived as aggressive? Didn't the Forkiverse want to be a place that completes the Fediverse and makes the internet a better place? And now I'm reading the same whining we hear from white men on X when they have to use alt text. Crazy world. #Forkiverse #Inclusion #Handicap #accessibility #Fediverse@jdmsn@theforkiverse.com
