The princess with the pea was faking it.
In the folktale Andersen based his story on, the girl (a miller's daughter) knows she is being tested for royal blood, so she pretends to be overly sensitive. It's a female-protagonist version of Puss in Boots, basically.
"But that's cheating!"
Yeah. This is what you get when you put people through blood purity tests instead of paying attention to what kinda person they are.
