In Irish mythology, Nuada was the first king of the supernatural Tuatha Dé Danann, but lost his hand in battle. As a king of the Tuatha Dé Danann must be physically perfect, Nuada could not remain king until the divine physician Dian Cecht made him a working silver hand.
