My first home Internet experience was in 1997 on a Philips WebTV (aka MSN TV). It was a box that connected to your TV with a keyboard to navigate the UI. Mine was a Big Lots discount purchase, keyboard-less. A high school teacher let me take home an IBM Model-M. It had a PS/2 port on the back for wired connection (though it was designed for the official wireless keyboard). Luckily, Model-Ms had very long coiled cables. My TV was one of those cabinet units, a piece of furniture itself with a wood frame. Our home's only phone line connected to the WebTV. Like most teens then, it was a fight for the phone when someone wanted to be online. I always wanted to be online. That is where I learned HTML. I bought a thick how-to book all about HTML 2.0 from a local bookstore and studied it inside out. I wanted to make a super awesome website to meet other people with similar interests. I think that is where my love for the old web came from. Since then, I have learned other things, like CSS, some python, and other things. #WebTV #DialUp #90sTech #Nostalgia #FOSS
