#yegbike larger area musings, Camrose edition: Coming into town, I had been texting with my daughter about family business. (No texting while cycling, there were many rest breaks). I mentioned that in this long slog of a ride; I was thinking a lot about Boston Pizza for supper. The kidlet has some connections in Camrose, so she asked them to recommend some independent food places. Prime Fried Chicken was the winner, and we had a great supper there. I forgot to add that we had come across great concentrations of Canada Geese in some of the wetlands. Like 2 or 3 hundred. They took off in great murmurations - I didn’t know they did that. I also didn’t recognize their call, they make a different call when doing that, I guess. Also this motel is better equipped, much more comfortable, and way friendlier than the one in Ponoka - and cheaper! #bikepacking #yeg #cobrachicken

So when in Rocky Mountain House, one should visit Rocky Mountain Bike N Board. And you should listen to Loyal when he tells you of a gravel path out to the Historic Site, What a great little ride! Some paved, some single track, some grass, and to a Historical Fort site! Also you should heed his advice as to what local restaurants are good. We have yet to check that out, but we look forward to tonight’s supper. Rocky Mountain House is a charming town, but the local cuisine is largely the usual franchises. Copper Creek Cafe & Mercantile being a fine local establishment that has it going on. #yegbike #yeg #bikepacking

You know that when you get puncture after puncture its time to change the tire. Unfortunately I only found 40mm one, going from 45mm I feel like a roadie ;-) Sometimes I got some roadside "help" with the fix from "bystanders"... Also the repair stations are nice, if they have tools or aren't damaged in other ways. Poland had bunch of them but missing so much stuff or broken down that they were unusable. #biketooter #bikepacking #biketouring

Day 6: managed to start early before the Plöckenpass gets motorcycle infested, but the long rough steep “gravel” climb to Rif. Marinelli in 30C+ heat killed me and was considering giving up. Fun descent, then the siesta incident, “dip” in the river (too cold to submerge) and the pleasant surprise of the next climb is fresh Champagne gravel (with a punishing chunky loose part at the end)! Day 7: First part was a beautiful gravel road following roughly the same elevation around a valley with spectacular views. Then a fast asphalt with hairpins, dirtbag lunch from the one only supermarket not doing siesta. #BikePacking #Italy

Day 2: left the wildcamping spot early, had a burek at a bakery and an awful gas station coffee (everything else was closed before Bled). Bled was horrible, I know it’s touristy, but it was massively crowded. Also not sure what’s the big deal, sure it’s a pretty lake but there are hundreds of such lakes in the Alps. After two nights short on sleep I treated myself with a room in a mountain hut at 1200 meters, pleasant 25C here. #BikePacking #Sloveniahttps://strava.app.link/rGHv25kvh5b

Day 3: arrived in Gozd Martuljek, enjoying a long awaited dirtbag lunch where I get to choose the protein-fiber-carb ratio:) Then off to a side-trip. #BikePacking #Karawanken

Day 3: uneventful first half of the day, brutal hike&bike detour to the ridge of the Karawanken. Climbed 750m at 15% average grade on loose rock. Day 4: going well so far, crossed i to Italy, took a dip in this wonderful gorge at the price of going down and up 60 meters on decayed stairs and passing a bridge in a similar poor state. Dirtbag lunch in Tarvisio. #BikePacking

Day 4: second half of the day I cycled up Sella Sompdogna (passing a mandatory road closed sign), had a beer, found a mostly dry riverbed, hung out with baby salamanders and a tiny snake, had a wildcamp. Got passed on the (closed) gravel road by Guardia di Finanza in a large pickup, then back 30 min later. Day 5 was a great one, took a ex-railway bike path, climbed a “closed” road, avoided rain under a bridge and got myself a hotel room. This region is perfect, almost no foreign tourists, not even Germans, no Dutch caravans, 100km to the nearest American. Day 6: made the classic traveling in Italy mistake of arriving in a village hungry at 13:30, having passed multiple restaurants on a descent, having forgotten this thing called siesta. Even fucking Spar closes in the afternoon :D But I was lucky to get to a place where they were willing to serve me spaghetti before closing \o/ #BikePacking #Italy #Siesta

Popływałem, zjadłem śniadanie, złożyłem obóz i jadę. Nie odzywałem się, bo chciałem zajechać jak najdalej, zanim zacznie się palnik. Zdążyłem dojechać do Piły, gdzie wsiadam do pociągu i szybko wracam z wakacji do domu... A raczej wsiadłbym, gdybym nie był sobą xD W rzeczywistości jestem w Pile dlatego, że wybrałem dłuższą drogę do domu, którą i tak chyba jeszcze przedłużę odbijając w Kaczorach na Chodzież. #wakacje #bikepacking #Piła #Canyon #rower

Taking rest break in New Sarepta, on a much needed bikepacking trip to Miquelon Lake for a few nights of camping. Was supposed to be Elk Island but sadly the park is still closed due to storm damage.
