The gatehouse of Crossraguel Abbey, near Maybole in Ayrshire. Founded in the 13th century by Duncan, 1st Earl of Carrick. It is halfway between Paisley and Whithorn on the pilgrims' trail to the shrine of St Ninian. #blackandwhitephotography #Scotland #Ayrshire #History

Greenan Castle, Ayr. The ruin of a 15th C tower house, stands on the site of a motte and bailey and promontory fort. Dark tales of family feuds and murder still resonate around this atmospheric cliff top ruin. #blackandwhitephotography #Ayrshire #SouthernScotland #History

Dunure Castle, Ayrshire. They say that sometimes, you can still hear the screams of Allan Stewart, the Commendator of Crossraguel Abbey, as he was being roasted alive here by the Earl of Cassillis in 1570. #blackandwhitephotography #Scotland #Ayrshire #SouthernScotland
