I installed LXQt desktop on my laptop, as I have been using it on a desktop for a while. Artix by default using the Openbox window manager with LXQt instead of the xfwm4 that Devuan bundles with LXQt. So some of the shortcut key configuration is slightly different. Eventually, I'll get around to pairing BSPWM with LXQt, as I think that'd be fun. For right now, I'm running cortile which maximizes the windows automatically with the default I have. For right now, I can say that LXQt is much lighter on resources than Cinnamon on the same machine. Cinnamon on Artix seemed to be much more of a resource hog than Cinnamon on Debian and Devuan based Linux systems. But with LXQt, it just sips instead of gulps. #Linux #Artix #LXQt

Thank you all for all the help in the linked post. I installed Gentoo successfully twice, first with a non desktop and then with a desktop stage file/profile. However, mostly because of how my brain works and because of my priorities, I decided to go with Artix instead. Knowing the extent of customization and optimization that can - or could - be done with USE flags and kernel parameters, I can’t help myself from wanting to tailor every single aspect of the system. I try to anticipate what software, use case and compatibility I’m possibly going to need in the future and try to adjust the USE flags accordingly. But after compiling, I realize that I have missed a flag or some flags, sometimes ones that impact the system quite extensively, and so I redo everything immediately. And when I realize that the system cannot easily be reverted or adjusted and that it’s easier to switch profiles, I reinstall the whole thing. My brain is just not made for such granularity. 🤣😭 Gentoo seems amazing. The feeling of having a system that is completely tailored to ones needs and wishes must be beyond this world! Here's the MATE desktop on top of Artix Linux. It is installed on a ThinkCentre Tiny M700. This is the computer for this week's RetroEdge.Tech Computer Giveaway. One thing that I do not like about MATE (and therefore the old Gnome2) is that there is very little keyboard control of the desktop environment. The 'super' key does not launch the Start Menu. Ctrl+Alt+t does not launch a terminal, et cetera. Experimenting with more Artix Linux "spins" (that the right word?) This is a USB live boot of Moksha desktop environment. Moksha is interesting to me as it is a continuation of the Enlightenment Desktop, written in C and with BSD style software license. Very #RetroEdge. As configured, and with the choices of included software, it definitely would not be a daily driver for me, but I can see tweaking it a bit would make it more appealing. #Linux #Artix #xLibre #Moksha
