lets be friends!!
i make music as smalrainbow and i like to code random things <3
very anti-ai. don't even joke lad
this is a new account, i used to be @meowch@donotsta.re@nyanya.gay

thank you so much. i will meet you next week and the next week after that and the next week
i've stumbled upon a weird scam campaign. i clicked on a random primeagen video (consider it my first mistake) and when i checked the comments i saw seemingly normal comments that would mention something named "groklorum" as having "finally arrived" and whatnot, just in an unusually natural almost non-scammy way as far as scam slop goes and the comments were absolutely full of these (see pictures attached) so i genuinely bought that these were real.
i thought these were related to the video and that it was some sort of meme being quoted from whatever the hell the video was on about, which at this point i wasnt paying attention to because i was figuring out what this groklorum thing is :p
from the screenshots id like to highlight the long comment in the first one. you dont have to read all of it, spoiler alert its ai slop but notice that it does seem to be about the video until the last sentence which is what threw me off into this tangent to begin with:
I believe hand-coding is still critical—it's about quality vs quantity. I work at an AI startup building custom enterprise AI pipelines, and my boss insists we only use Claude because he thinks it's faster. I go along since I need a paycheck, so I just use Claude without reading code. But I recently looked at our codebase and it's the worst I've ever seen. I originally designed the architecture with ~140 endpoints, but the helper functions and logic are insanely convoluted. On my side project, I timed myself and can code about 7 endpoints an hour, so 140 would take 20 hours—half a week. We've been spending months with Claude. Manual coding is both faster and higher quality. I'm planning to show my boss this data and suggest we only use Claude for debugging, not implementation. No time to wait anymore now that Groklorum is a thingi did a really quick search and as soon as the first result said "decentralized cryptocurrency blockchain" i just backed off like yeah im not even gonna bother. i thought it was some grok-related elon musk thing (which are also scams but what gives :akko_shrug:) and then when i kept watching the video it was NEVER mentioned. and then i noticed all the emdashes in all of the comments i read and i was like ??
then i found this thread on reddit about a big youtube scam campaign that fabricated something called "grokarium" back in april, with comments from may saying a new wave of these under the premise of a "grokvarum" popped up again, and finally a single comment from just half an hour ago about the new "groklorum". its not even a real thing. these comments probably wear the skin of real comments that they themselves buried under bad engagement so theirs show up instead
i dont know why i was so bewildered by this whole thing (i probably spent more time writing this than looking into it), i think its just that i thought the comment section was real at first, and this is genuinely 90% of the comments that keep showing up on the video for me even hours after the upload. plus none of the replies anywhere acknowledged what it is. finding out that this groklorum thing isnt even a REAL PRODUCT felt like being rugpulled out of another rugpull; plus for the weeeeirdly specific target audience and weirdly big scale of the scam its obscure enough that it took some digging to find out anything about it. but im glad i dont have to look into it anymore now that groklorum is a thing
ive completely lost it. im turning toml files into templates that render into more toml files
im addicted to making my life harder for no reason
when im bored i open tuxpaint and draw cats
stupi}d fly
i like sending random emails to random people if i like their website and they have a contact form
i watched tsoding's video where he implements shader code with no external libs by generating .ppm files byte by byte and thought it'd be fun to spend the day doing the same in zig. it's probably my favorite code related video now due to how much fun (and genuinely useful) knowledge is condensed into 10 minutes <3
i did NOT get close to getting the shader right LOL but i still got really pretty results!!! my fault is probably in not understanding glsl very well (let alone obfuscated glsl)
you can tell by the last gif i was just messing around with the variables :P
for the past month i've made music for and helped develop and manage an ambitious little game for a game jam that we unfortunately couldn't finish most of everything in time for.
there were many bizarre and unlucky issues along the way that made it quite difficult for the entire team to get things done, but we did get a lot more done than we thought we would!! the artists did an incredible job and some of the assets are drop dead gorgeous!! the music that the lead composer and audio director (agatha) got into the game is also incredible and most of what i did was rearranged by her. overall everyone did an incredible job and working with this team of people was a joy and i'd love to work in both a properly finished version of the game in the near future (!!) and just any other future projects :teto_heart:
we also had an issue where most of the code was deleted the day before the deadline (yesterday) and we basically had to hack together even less of what we originally had in just a day :akko_weary:
we got something out though!! and you can play it here!!
you'll notice that for a "fever dream jam" there's not much feverish dreamy things in the current state of the game. among the many things that were either planned or done assets wise but cut code wise there was an entire last portion of the game (and gradual transformation on the way there) that i wrote, made music for and would have "directed" art wise with a friend that we just couldn't get to in time... this section would have gone haywire with surrealism and is where most of the actual theme would have come into
with all of that in mind most of my contributions ended up basically being the team's maid setting up the repos and doing a lot of cleaning particularly in the first two weeks. and it was a lot of fun!! you should play it and see what the artists came up with!!
kinda heartbroken to see some of the prominent friend 2 friend networks like freenet (and i2p if you count it) give in fully to integrating ai in the code and other aspects. i've always been fascinated by the idea of making a walled garden for your friends, following cathedral type workflows for projects, etc.
the closest a project has come to realizing this i've found to be keybase (specially with the lovely git hosting), and apparently that wasn't even truly decentralized. it's also been completely abandoned since zoom bought the company. sigh
me and my friends also tried retroshare through our own vpn (headscale instance) for a while and it was fun but the app has a lot of quirks... plus at this point i'd rather be able to separate most of what it comes with into separate apps/modules/sites hosted in said vpn. which i guess is the best way to do a f2f type thing these days but it wouldn't be fully p2p would it?
freenet (i guess now called hyphanet and half abandoned while the shitty ai one is called freenet somehow) comes pretty close to being a fun f2f thing too. but you can't do much fun stuff on top of it, it's all static sites. you wouldn't be able to do something like a friend-only decentralized git network there i don't think, not with a lot more effort than its worth at least
are there more fun toys to play around with the idea of making a completely private walled garden for friends?
part of a birthday gift i made to a friend some months ago 💚
mostly recorded from my own puredata patches ^^
we need more friendware!! code friendware now!! make walled gardens for you and your friends now!!
