@mattly@hachyderm.io this is a bad take. There are plenty of ethical proxies and proxies need to be protected to safeguard our online freedoms.
IP addresses are already used incorrectly as identification which ipv4 is fundamentally incapable of due to limited address pool making people share same 'indentity" and ipv6 adoption is artificially limited because it's harder to use for tracking so residential proxies are important in this ecosystem to get around IP identity based censorship.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange I think you might be underestimating the value here. Just with "matching solved problems with existing solutions" in it's own right is the greatest invention of the century. Most problems have existing solutions - choosing the right one and applying it is like 99% of all work we do. This is actually a good thing as it leaves creative edge pushing solutions for us and have LLM tools do the "boring" matching - is it not?

Exciting time for open LLM advocates and honestly with censorship removal techniques like https://github.com/p-e-w/heretic it seems like open-weight LLMs are winning the AI race!

@signalapp@mastodon.world next step - enable Settings → Account → Registration Lock by default. Without it you don't own your signal account and all of this "safety" and "privacy" talk is pointless.

@_elena@mastodon.social isn't that like, the point of decentralization and open source? The only real criticism of blue sky is that it's owned by American VCs

@maccruiskeen @Brokar @sundogplanets you mean using satellites as weapons? that seems a bit unlikely but clearly Ukraine has shown how powerful low-orbit internet is as utility for weapons so I meant more of that regard. For that, you do need a lot of them for good coverage and they have limited lifespan + need a large backup overhead.

@sundogplanets and for what?
I did some napkin math some time ago: all these satellites cost around 10-15B usd to deploy. This would be equivalent of 0.5 - 1 million cell towers at 10-20k usd (yeah that cheap).
There are currently 7 million cell towers worldwide most of which are old and under-performing. With 1 million NEW cell towers with economies of scale we could have probably covered the same actual reach with better latency, access and affordability.
Low orbit internet is a joke.

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange if you look around there are dedicated services that rent out a bot net so you can take down harmful ads and they actually do more vetting for your use case than Meta does for launching the ad. It's crazy how Meta is not being straight up broken down right now.
The meta ad market in Thailand is like 50% scams and I've been reporting the same ads for the better part of this year.

@sounddrill@infosec.exchange yes! You can add a browser or an electron app as a non-steam game and use controller as a mouse. It works quite well
