@NMBA@mstdn.ca Politicians have little regard for voters, except when an election is pending. We don't need them to deliver a message to the tech bros. Just turn them off, leave, delete, refuse to play their game. Seriously, it's easy and you'll have more time to do other things, save money and have less stress. Amazon has been laying off wholesale and delivery times are longer. Only one reason for that - less sales. It works.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social The real danger of destroying books is that once the hard copy is gone, the digital books can be either deleted and/or their existence denied, or access to them controlled. POWER is why they are doing this - and likely they hope to make money selling digital access. And what are they doing with the books when they're done with them - burning or pulping them?

@NMBA@mstdn.ca So the US will not be able to assert its version of 'democracy' - i.e. profit/money/pillage first, the rest a dice toss, later - beyond its own borders. Taiwan and Asia are able to protect themselves. Ukraine is proving the US is not needed. Russia is losing. Iran isn't the paper tiger 47 thought it was. Israel can't get weapons that don't exist. Great news all around.

@NMBA@mstdn.ca There could be more 'closed' courtrooms, but then the public's right to know is at risk. Public perception is just as rigid as the court's - it's societal. People judge and always have. This affects all of us, and not just in the courtroom. Nothing much has improved and a lot has got worse.

I use a lot of open source software myself and what I do online is limited and as safe as I can make it. As for Bill C-22, access must require a warrant, with specifics, just as if they came into your home - and with a report/record. Any data not needed should be deleted permanently. Backdoors are commonly in hardware, - but can use embedded aps not available to the user.

I'd rather there was a law whereby police and others have to to justify it. @Tamtam@mastodon.de Perhaps this is true in politics, but in grassroots community groups, it's women who speak up and who do most of the work. Men are not great organizers - but can use their contacts to good advantage. These groups are strong because both men and women use their skills fully.

What I got at first was everything in the public column, then I fine-tuned by following what interested me to get it into my 'Home' feed. I have just the two active columns. I block what doesn't interest me to make it easier to see what does. Overall, a much richer experience than 'X'. Seen almost no trolls. So thanks for that, Mike, and all the other administrators.

@nat@kind.social My SIL started using washable diapers because of the cost of the disposable ones (this was in the 90s). Babies use a lot of diapers, and she found a place that made really nice cotton ones with padding. I'm sure they're still available. I remember diaper services, before disposables. We were in a duplex and the lady above us kept them in a pail in the hallway for pickup. You can imagine the smell. Some things have improved.

It's a lesson to all those who who didn't vote, for whatever reason. It can happen in Canada too - and was very close last election. We get less than half the voters actually voting. @Cassandra@ottawa.place BC is pretty good. They offer the vax free and they have a way to book, although it would be a challenge to get a convenient time if we weren't retired. If a vax is offered there must be a reason - or they would just save the money. Have not noticed any claim that covid or anything else is 'over', except by idiot influencers on social media. People who believe them deserve what they get.
