You might need this option as well if you don't want to log to your system log:
--no-act
Causes everything to be done except for writing the log message to the system log, and removing the connection to the journal. This option can be used together with --stderr for testing purposes.
I'll also say that if you want to capture prompts & typing (which it sounds like you do):
tail -f typescript | logger ...
