Hi @panos@catodon.rocks I have an idea - in the search, by far the greatest amount of my searches are to search myself in my own account.
I know it’s possible to do that as is (as I always do) but, if beside the ‘search’ button there were another twin ‘search me’, it’d save about three taps each time.
Am I the only one who searches myself more than any other search? 🔍
I'm trying out Catodon here, and then after about three weeks I ended up installing it on a Raspberry Pi 5B SSD running the latest Raspberry Pi OS. It's good.
@u0421793@toot.pikopublish.ing@catodon.rocks is me there

What overlap is there between fediverse and xmpp (if any)?
My catodon has stopped working on my own instance so I’m back here today. I don’t know what the problem is, I’ll have to sort it out when I get the time. I discovered my ddclient was all set up but ddclient itself was never installed, and when I installed it the setup wasn’t correct, it is now. So my internet numbers must’ve stayed the same since January and only changed yesterday afternoon for some reason. The rest of the domain works, now, but toot.pikopublish.ing doesn’t any more. The catodon itself works internally, so it’s not that. This shit is all too complicated so it’ll have to wait until I get a spare half an hour to look at it, maybe over the bank holiday.
Tonight I will mainly be posting during Top Of The Pops from my own catodon instance - @u0421793@toot.pikopublish.ing _( @u0421793@toot.pikopublish.ing )_ to see how it goes. It’s a better Raspberry Pi5B 8GB than the previous iceshrimp instance was running on (which was a Raspberry Pi4B running the older Raspberry Pi OS, not the latest one, which probably makes no difference). The old one ran on an SSD via a SATA-USB3 lead, this one has an NVME SSD in an NVME board underneath, which should be better.
Hopefully it’ll all be seamless. If not, you’ll be the first to know. Well, second to know. Well, everyone will know. Yes, even birds.
By the way if anyone wants to try a second fediverse instance that isn’t mastodon, I can solidly recommend this new Catodon on this flagship instance catodon.rocks - give it a try, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. #TOTP

Personally I really welcome gatekeeping. Who wants people around who have a gate but can’t keep it – “oh I’ve lost my gate, again”. Useless! If you’ve got a gate, just bloody well keep it. Don’t lose it, don’t give it away, hang on to it. Having a gate is a privilege – look after it. What do you think a gate is for? Opening, then shutting. That’s what. If you’ve lost your gate, you’ve got nothing to open and shut. Visitors to your house have nothing to open and then shut. People need something to open and then shut behind them. If you have a gate, you’re providing a service, you need to keep your gate - don’t just lose it like a fool. Keep your gate. Gates are meant to be kept.
