@iris_meredith@mastodon.social In Hungary the previous govt, at the end of 16 years of "illiberal democracy" tried to whip up hate against LBGTQ+ people. This resulted a quite sudden (couple of years) shift in general acceptance of them. Like two thirds of the country accepts gay marriage and adoption by gay couples now.

@raganwald @Ambulocetus Finally, there is one which does not translates that well. During the July 4th parade a girl runs up to the president and gives him a small bunch of wild flowers. The president gives her a peck on her face, pats her head and sends her back to her school's team in the parade. Two party officials on the podium: "Just look how nice our President with children!" "Yes, especially if you consider that he could have had her shot!"

The applause grew thunderous. An aide walks up to the president: "Mister President, you don't have to read the olympic rings!"

@spiegelmama @MarkAsser what happened in Hungary can't happen in the US. Here the process of voting was always free, practical, cheat-proof and done extremely professionally. The cheating happened somewhere else. The US does not allows people to vote, or their votes to be counted, or allows cheating during the voting or the counting.
