@mattiem@mastodon.social it lets you make synchronous a whole batch of work “within the family” which means you only need to think about establishing your invariants at start/end of the batch, instead of maintaining them at every await inside the batch (as you need to if each object in the family is an independent actor). I can see especially why *they’re* exploring these techniques, with the TCA library caring a lot about when updates become visible

Pretty cool to see although I can’t imagine I’ll reach for it often.

@markmccaughrean gorgeous! I suspect the colour might be structural? Can’t catch it with the flash because it needs the light incoming from an off angle. We have a couple here (Greece) that are similarly flash-resistant: Calosoma sycophanta (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/279294042) and something possibly in Pachycarus that’s vividly electric in person https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/292159555

@aparrish (obligatory disclaimer: I’m flailing in the dark with this stuff just like everybody else) I find myself spending much more of my dev time finding alternative ways to get that understanding without reading (all of) the code. LLM agents are good for that too, writing smaller scripts that pull out and visualise (deterministically!) important information. And also refactoring (more thoroughly than I would have time for without agents) to emphasise patterns that are easy to scan-and-agree.

@Migueldeicaza I think this may be because SwiftUI can’t see inside the definitions of those computed vars to tell which properties of the model they depend on. If you inline them into body I believe it will try to optimise the update to changed-properties-only. I wish I better understood the mechanism: it should be possible to split out in a way which doesn’t wreck it. But generally I’ve learned to avoid computed vars in View structs because of this.
