Today we released GT Mechanik by @shiva__n@bird.makeup, Reto Moser, and Noël Leu, and (of course) celebrate with a not so little minisite. The super fun Mono, Semi, Poly tonal axis enables a wide range of expressions and a playful exploration of rhythm in type.

I wanted to search for font names but the Namecheck website was down again. So "I" "built" my own clone, and enabled batch search while I was at it. The DB only contains digital-era sources and definitely has worse data quality than the original site; but if you’d find it useful, you can use it here: https://namescan.netlify.app

@klim @Stuarthazley We actually launched with PayPal pay me now buttons back in 2009. I’d send out the files whenever I got back to a computer and saw the purchase. But that was 2009. I’d rather have the email conversation and get to know people so early on it I’d start over again.

@Stuarthazley “email me for licensing” works fine, plus stripe invoicing. Or any of the other options already mentioned.

I edited the article back then, happy to (try to) answer any questions that may come up while reading. Also: Ivar is a wonderful person. He hosted us in Tallinn, took us to a sauna, and gifted us a ton of amazing uses of this typeface from his collection. And then he wrote this article!

@rosaliewagner@typo.social we’re not looking for any type designer employees at the moment but just out of interest — what do you consider a part time setup that works for you as a parent? I’m a parent and run a foundry so just interested.

@glintveinlina @lucaslebihan my understanding is that the list of foundries they invite is curated. What the foundries who participate want to submit is up to them, though. Which, for me, essentially makes it a paid advertisement.

@lucaslebihan GT clearly ended up on the no no list for Sl… when I pointed this out on Twitter. They stopped mentioning us after that. They call it a curated list (because it was still based on an email invite to participate, I guess) when it’s just paid ads.
