These buildings on the edge of the Coast Guard base seemed like a likely subject for my first salt print, a process that was created in the 1830s and unveiled in 1840. Salt, silver nitrate, and sodium thiosulfate was all I needed to print this. Amazing. Kodak Retina IIIS, Eastman 5222, developed in divided D-76.

School’s Out

This building will someday be a school, in fact, a particular school, the Marine Academy of Science and Technology. My mom worked there for a few years as one of the secretaries. They’re currently across the street in a bunch of small buildings. This large building has a sign in front of it saying it is the future home of MAST. But I’ve been watching this building for years and there’s been no movement to make it a useful building since they shored it up.
