@webhat@infosec.exchange @tante@tldr.nettime.org I disagree. This implies all ai is big tech, big data centre ai, when in fact this isn't the case. Those references do align with openai, anthropic, x, z, Google and all the big data centre ai's, but not at all with small niche and specialist low resource ai. If I run a local 1b llm's model, for 30 mins to perform a task, do I amount to child labour, water shortages etc etc?

@Epic_Null@infosec.exchange what have babies got to do with it? @tante@tldr.nettime.org mentioned replacing ai with child labour when discussing issues to make it hit home more, but child labour does not equal ai does not equal babies. Child labour has no place in the world, babies do, ai does. Child labour our is bad, babies are good, ai requires careful management and potentially regulating.

@tante@tldr.nettime.org i dont feel that makes a lot of sense? Big tech AI bad, totally agree, but replacing "ai" with "child labour" makes no sense. There is no correlation between the 2.

@TheKeystoneCollective totally agree. It's an absolute joke that palantir got the contract in the first place, but it's even crazier now with what has come to light recently and they still won't cancel the contract. I feel we should take a leaf out of the EU's book and really start distancing ourselves from big tech / us tech. I don't think we need to completely remove it, but having a mix of suitable options available and in use is a sensible approach.
