@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I went all the way to writing an app for this. It's saved us from throwing away so much food, because we know it's in the fridge even if it's hiding in the back. https://leftovers.olivierforget.net/

@ceartas@mastodon.world @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Hi, just wondering, how often is the snorkel truly useful in socal? (I assume you're socal based) I was in Darwin Australia recently, and just about every 4x4 over there has a snorkel. But they get a rainy season that floods everything so it makes sense. I've always wondered why people have them in socal, but what do I know I don't go offroad much. I think I crossed an 8" deep stream in my car once, that was it.

@wbrowar@hachyderm.io Yeah it's really meant to make this sort of app easier to build and run. Maybe for V3? 😬 It would at least solve the issue of whether to make your app available to others: you can just host the package on a static site and people can download and run their own copy if* they have Dropserver installed.

  • "if" is doing a lot of work here, I realize. 😅

@wbrowar@hachyderm.io Great write-up. I am also on a journey to ditch Tailwind and adopt Web Components instead of always reaching for Vue. Also your challenges with the server side make me wish I was further along with my own server project https://dropserver.org It's really meant for these family-oriented personal apps.

@nolan@toot.cafe @kleinfreund@mastodon.social @rauschma@fosstodon.org ah darn that's a bummer. I was hoping for declarative custom elements with slots. Slots are really make web components so appealing. I guess the other option is to have optional escape hatches for all the things that shadow dom isolates, so that you can select what benefits and restrictions you want. But I don't know what's being worked on and I'm sure it's not that simple!

@nolan@toot.cafe Interesting post. I'm going through something similar, creating something I have wanted for years because it seems like the personal cost of building it is manageable. In my case I'm using the regular Claude Pro plan, and one reason I haven't upgraded is it forces me to slow down. (But on the flip side, token austerity means I don't ask AI to refactor things when I should.) I want to focus on getting an LLM to improve code quality and even architecture to some degree, not write more. It seems it's possible but I haven't seen that much written about that.
