Setting direction, creating room for your staff and shielding them from all the managerial logistics is invaluable. I have a feeling it is a draining burden for all specialists who have climbed into a managerial role through competence though... I have a weekly urge to retreat into the vaults like a hermit and work undisturbed on something no one cares about
