@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I was on the cusp generation. I grew up with records, and CDs were an absolute revelation. Better sound, consistent sound, and simplicity. These days, I'm as likely to buy records as CDs, because they sound good *enough* (modern records are FAR better than most of the '70s and '80s), and if I need better sound, I can download it. What I can't download is the feeling of a record in my hand, the joy of a large album cover, or reading the detailed liner notes while listening to the music.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org it's a cover of a cover. There are probably hundreds of covers, but John Cale significantly reworked Cohen's original and struck lightning with it. Almost everything that came after was based on Cole's version. Even Cohen absorbed a lot of it in his later concerts. (He also famously said that there was no point in anyone covering it again, after k.d. lang's performance at the Vancouver Olympics)

@sidalsolgun@infosec.exchange it is, and it isn't. In the cities, things are perfectly reasonable. Nobody gives a shit about others' unusualness. Small towns are hard to gauge. Most of them have a mixture of intolerant rednecks and a fierce pride community. If you're cruising through, I don't *think* it's a problem. If you're doing drag storytime at the library, you'll definitely get harassed.
