@Tutanota@mastodon.social for the sake of providing a source, from Projeto de Lei nº 398/XVII/1ª (the bill in question), Article 7 clause 2 clearly states: “Para efeitos [de verificacao de idade], é proibida a utilização de mecanismos de verificação de idade baseados na autoidentificação do utilizador.” The translation of which is: “For the purpose of [age verification], the use of mechanisms based on the self-identification of the user is prohibited”

@muminpappa @EUCommission @pasci_lei @epicenter_works As for circumvention, we need to apply to vpn and vps providers the same criteria we would apply to social media and 18+ sites, maybe for vps’s we include an exception for vps’s hosted in europe, or allow children access to these services with parental consent.

@muminpappa @EUCommission @pasci_lei @epicenter_works @muminpappa @EUCommission @pasci_lei @epicenter_works As for the issue of older generations and people without digital ID’s, i think we need to make it possible for anyone to register for a digital ID in person in an easy process and make the verification process as easy to follow as possible. If the old people in question can create a facebook account they shouldn’t have trouble dealing with age verification.

@muminpappa @EUCommission @pasci_lei @epicenter_works I, personally, am not inherently against age verification, so long as it is implemented with zero-knowledge proofs to avoid data leaks and the government knowing what I’m doing. That said I think it is of the utmost inportance that the legislation that requires age verification and provides the ZKP framework EXPLICITLY prohibits any form of age verification that uses the user’s personally identifiable information.
