That audiobook software does not automatically download books when the phone is on a Wi-Fi network, so if I don't remember to do so manually while at home, it plays in streaming mode, which does not work on the subway, because my city still does not have telephone service underground. That phone has all kinds of new AI features, like the ability to eliminate all of the people from my photographs, and the subway system has millions of dollars worth of cameras to prevent fare jumping. 2/

I am truly about to blow a fucking valve about technology no longer working. I have an audiobook program on my Android phone. For some reason it is not compatible with the fob I used to connect my headphones to the phone, and constantly detects the fob hitting the play button, like constantly, so a single word might stop and restart five times, creating a disturbing, Max Headroom effect. 1/

Lawyers really need to get on this. The profession can protect itself against the flood of idiotic pro-se filings and the fake precedents cited in AI-written briefs. But it goes much further, because the concepts like honor, fair play and reputation come naturally to humans and do not come, even after a lot of work, to computer programs.

What I did here is something I wish people did more often. I posted my IDEA for an image, rather than going to Mecha Hitler and struggling for a while to get the image I wanted and then posting it. I saved a lot of energy and water, and I provided all the information I needed to provide. There is a lesson here. Instead of prompting an AI and sending the output, JUST SEND THE PROMPT.

You really wouldn't know it from elsewhere but Waymo self driving vehicles have taken over SF. They are at least one of every 20 cars you see. I saw 4 at one intersection last night.

Seeing them in life has eased some of my concerns. But now, I have a new nightmare scenario about them.

@peter@thepit.social i actually think CEO is the correct position to replace, because it is the one with the lowest direct contact with customers, most supervision (a whole board) and highest per-employee cost. I don't think most people would notice if their CEO were replaced by a bot.

Unless you are hinting at some global banking conspiracy, which is a different and less polite conversation. Airbnb has been almost completely banned in New York and the impact has been negligible. I'm sure it helped, and it has definitely improved the quality of life in some buildings, but rents keep going up.

I am fine with taxing pied a terres to the point that they become less desirable then hotels, but beyond that? The idea that there is some vast reservoir of housing that will solve our problems without new construction is a widespread fantasy. It goes along with the myth that density requires high rises, when the densest development pattern is 5-6 stories. People fight really hard to avoid becoming like Paris

@peter@thepit.social i think it's that housing become an investment class in the 20th century, blocking new infill development, and car sprawl no longer works in the 21st There is a housing crunch in Singapore but because almost all the land is publicly owned, it's not the same at all. For a city with that economy, there is remarkable housing availability.

By chance, I was watching that testimony live. It was utterly bracing. You could see that this member of the House had done her homework. She was the youngest Congressperson and was stll in her first year in office, but she did this.

Remember everybody: The whole NY AG case against Trump began because Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, representing Queens & the Bronx, asked Michael Cohen if he had ever seen the Trump Org overstate assets to one audience and understate them to another.

This is what Congressional questions can do. It is a travesty that most members just rant for 5 minutes and then give witnesses 5 seconds to respond.
